Location: Bucknell Invitational at Bucknell GC in Lewisburg, Pa.
Short Story: The University at Albany women's golf team finished in fifth place out of 13 teams at the 2024 Bucknell Invitational.
Callie Taylor led the way for the Great Danes, shooting scores of +6, +1, and +3 to finish in a tie for third place overall. Cepeda shot +2, +8, and +4 to come home with a top-10 finish.
Head Coach Colleen Cashman: "Bucknell was a very nice event to start the season. The course was very scoreable and for the most part (minus 11 holes of rain yesterday) the weather was great. Having three of our new players lead the way was exciting to see. Callie really played solid the entire tournament. To finish third in her very first college tournament definitely exceeded my expectations and makes me excited for what's to come from her. Mia also played really solid golf as well, not making the big mistakes. Maddy had some rough starts each of the three days, but she played some good back nines holding it together. I most definitely had higher expectations from our returning juniors for sure. They will have to go back home and really figure something out. Overall, it was nice to have our best round today and claw back up the leaderboard to fifth place. The problem this week was that we couldn't find that much needed fourth score. If we could have shot 10 shots better each round, we could have finished in second place. Once we get four solid scores on the board, I think we can be a pretty dangerous contender in many events. So that will be fun to watch out for!"
