Short Story: The University at Albany women's golf team used a strong final round to rally to a 10
th place finish in the Princeton Invitational.
Head Coach Colleen Cashman: "This weekend was a battle from the start. For our 36-hole day, the weather was as difficult as we've seen so far this year with steady rain, gusty winds, and cooler temps. We definitely didn't get off to the best start in round one, but I saw a lot of quality shots out there. Because of the rain, the greens weren't able to be cut, so they were on the slower side which threw us off a bit. But I'm proud of them because they all stayed patient and determined through the difficult conditions and we put together a pretty good score in round two with only 20 shots total separating the field of teams. Today's third round once again involved more rain, but there was a bit more confidence I think. It was nice to have our top five golfers all score in the 70s, and it was even more impressive to place two golfers in the top 20 in our most competitive field of the fall season. Being able to shoot our best score so far this season today is a big boost of confidence going into our home tournament. We have played 108 holes of golf this week and everyone is a bit exhausted, so we will take a couple days to re-energize and start preparing. If we can just lessen our big hole mistakes by a few a round, we will be shooting scary good scores. I don't think we are far away from that which is exciting.
"A quick quote for our home tournament. - I really hope our community takes advantage of watching our team compete next weekend. Since this is our first year hosting a full team event, it's exciting to have these other schools come visit the Albany area. Our team is always out supporting other athletic programs and volunteering on the community, so I hope we have a good attendance at our event to root us on."
