Women’s Soccer Gears Up for Crosstown Matchup; Conference Opener

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany women's soccer program (1-6-0, 0-0 American East) will get to take on a pair of opponents this week when they play on their home pitch against rival Siena (4-4-0, 0-0 Metro Atlantic), before traveling to UMBC (3-4-0, 0-0 American East) for the first match of America East play.

The Great Danes are coming off a 4-1 loss against Colgate on Sunday, Sept 15 and are hoping to win this week's matches against Siena and UMBC.

The Saints will enter Wednesdays match coming off a 5-1 win against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, September 14. Siena has scored 16 goals in eight matches, averaging two goals per match. The Saints have taken 127 shots, 65 on goal, for an average of 15.9 shots per match and 0.512 shots on goal percentage. They have received a total of five yellow cards and zero red cards to this point in the season.
 
Cate Burns has been the team's predominant keeper in the net making six appearances out of eight matches where she has recorded 13 saves, and 6 goals allowed out of 55 total shots for 1.00 goals against average and 0.684 save percentage. Catherine Rogers is the Saints leading goal scorer, having recorded a total of eight goals off 15 shots on goal in eight matches, with a 0.517 shots-on-goal percentage.
 
Midfielder Abby Daly leads the team of any field player with 678 minutes on the pitch and is ranked eighth in the conference for penalty kicks. She has recorded two points from one goal with no assists while having a shot on goal percentage of 0.566.

Since 2017, the Purple and Gold are 2-1-1 against the Saints.
 
Looking at UMBC:
Before UMBC welcomes UAlbany for the first conference match of the season, they will first kick off against Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday, September 18th at home.
 
After eight matches, the Retrievers have recorded six goals while allowing 10 against their opponents and averaging 0.86 goals per match. In total, they have tallied 88 shots for an average of 12.6 shots per match while going 45-88 shots on goal to shots. UMBC has a total of two yellow cards and zero red cards to date this season.
 
At 360 minutes in goal, Abbey Cowles has been the Retrievers predominant keeper in the net. Cowles has made six appearances out of eight matches where she has recorded 16 saves out of 63 goals with 8 allowed goals. Cowles has a record of 2.00 goals against average and 0.667 save percentage. Payton Schenning has taken the most shots on goal for the Retrievers with a record of eight and has 0.571 shots on goal percentage with a total of seven shots made from 14 shots.
 
The Great Danes are currently on a seven match winning streak against the Retrievers since 2016.
