Short Story: The University at Albany men's soccer team suffered its third straight defeat by one goal, falling to Providence by a score of 1-0 Friday night in its home opener.

The way we finished the game creating chances and driving forward is how we want to play and I was proud of our resiliency. We took a bit longer to get going than we wanted to but showed what we're capable of once we did. We'll keep working toward the next match against another top opponent.”

The University at Albany men's soccer team came up short in its home opener Friday night, falling to Providence by a score of 1-0.

In the first half, both teams were held scoreless with Providence leading in shots with four. Bjarki Ragnar tallied the only shot attempt from the Great Danes in the 32nd minute, but it was blocked. UAlbany saw its only corner kick opportunity of the half in the 32nd minute as well, but were unable to score.

In the second half, the Great Danes and Friars were held scoreless up until the 49th minute. In the 49th minute when Providence had possession, Trevor Davock took a shot and was able to beat Hjerten to take a 1-0 lead.

UAlbany had three corner kick opportunities in the half, and almost tied the game up in the 87th minute. The Great Danes had its last corner of the night, and Alex Bourgeois hit the post on a header attempt. Sam Philip then followed up the play taking a shot, and the goalkeeper made the save.
