Women's Soccer Falls In Conference Opener To Boston U. 3-1

BOSTON, Mass. - Midfielder Chelsea DeVerna's goal in the 8th minute was not enough as UAlbany falls to Boston U., 3-1, on Sunday, September 23. The Great Danes fall to 0-1 in conference play and 3-7-1 overall and the Terriers improve to 5-5-1 and 1-0 in conference.

UAlbany (3-7-1, 0-1) got on the scoreboard first in the 8th minute of the match when DeVerna received a pass from Shayla Bergeron that gave her a breakaway to give the Great Danes a 1-0 lead.

Boston U. (5-5-1, 1-0) came right back in the 30th minute with Brea Hewitt tallying her third goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Following a 1-1 tie at the half, the Terriers offense awoke to break the game open.

In the 55th minute, Boston U.'s Dara DeMatteo scored from 10 yards out for her first of the season to give the Terriers the 2-1 lead and what would be the game-winner. Ana Cuffia, in the 74th minute, scored BU's insurance goal from a volley from Emma Clark to seal the Terrier's fifth win of the season and first conference win.

UAlbany goalkeeper Alana Brenna made three saves on six chances while her counterpart BU's Andrea Green would not record a save in the game on one chance.

The Great Danes host Stony Brook on Thursday, September 27 at the Plumeri Sports Complex (7 pm).
