Hofstra Knocks Off Women's Soccer 2-1 In Double Overtime

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y - A last-minute double-overtime goal by Hofstra's Amber Stobbs knocked off UAlbany, 2-1, on Friday, September 14. The Great Danes fall to 3-4-1 on the season while the Pride improve to 4-4 overall.

An efficient-shooting first half put UAlbany (3-4-1) up 1-0 at halftime. Hofstra (4-4) would lead UAlbany in shots, 14-3, but Great Dane goalkeeper Alana Brennan would make all seven saves that came her way to keep a clean sheet thru 45 minutes.

The Great Danes tallied the match's first goal in the 25th minute as Krista Fitzpatrick launched a header to the back right post for her first career goal. Kelly Kempf setup Fitzpatrick's first career goal by volleying the corner kick.

With the Great Danes carrying the 1-0 lead at the half, the Pride came back to equalize the match just 11 minutes into the second half.

Hofstra midfielder Jill Mulholland came in with a strike from 16-yards out to tie the match at one in the 57th minute. Pride midfielder Lulu Echeverry came in off the bench in the second half to assist the goal that will tie the match.

UAlbany and Hofstra would be in a stand still for the final 34 minutes of play. After 90 minutes, the Pride had a commanding lead in shots, 27-6 and in corner kicks, 10-2.

Both teams had an even two opportunities in the first overtime but both goalkeepers Alana Brennan and Hofstra keeper Emily Morphitis would hold a clean sheet in the first OT.

Then in the 117th minute of the match, Pride forward Amber Stobbs lofted a shot towards the net and as Brennan made a play on the shot the ball snuck underneath the cross bar to give Hofstra the golden goal of the match.

Great Danes' Brennan made a career-high 14 saves on 16 chances in the match, while her counterpart Morphitis would need to only make four saves on five chances.

UAlbany will look ahead to Northeastern on Sunday, September 16.
