A Late Vermont Goal Downs UAlbany, 2-1, On Sunday

ALBANY, N.Y. - Senior midfielder Maggie DeVerna's goal in the 59th minute was not enough, as New Hampshire defeated UAlbany, 2-1, on Sunday Oct. 14 at the Turf at College Park. The Great Danes out shot its opponent for the second consecutive match by more than 10 shots and lost.

Vermont (3-11-1, 2-5-1 America East) opened the match with a goal in the 42 minute. Midfielder Nicoleta Hardesty came off the bench to spark the Catamount offense. Hardesty dribbled the ball just inside the top right of the box and lined a shot passed UAlbany goalkeeper Alana Brennan.

Down one to begin the second half, UAlbany (5-10-1, 2-4 America East) came right back to tie the match. In the 59th minute, midfielder DeVerna picked up a loose ball in the box. DeVerna would send a shot that would graze a Vermont defender, but have enough on it to get passed Catamount goalkeeper Ally Ramos.

However, Vermont wasted no time scoring its second goal of the match. In the 62nd minute, forward Alexandra Dezenzo lined up a shot from 25 yards out that rose up and hit the top left of the net. The Catamounts led 2-1 and held onto that lead for the final 28 minutes for their second conference win.

UAlbany goalkeeper Brennan recorded three saves on five chances. UVM goalkeeper Ramos tallied nine saves on ten chances for her third victory of the season.

The Great Danes hit the road to face Maine on Thursday, Oct 18 at 3 p.m.
