UAlbany Falls to Colgate, 2-0, in Non-Conference Women's Soccer Action

Hamilton, N.Y. - Forwards Jillian Kinter and Anna Baldwin each scored a goal and goalkeeper Ashley Walsh turned away 13 shots in leading Colgate to a 2-0 win over UAlbany in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at Van Doren Field. The Great Danes held a commanding 19-7 advantage in shot attempts, but Walsh made every save she had to make and got some help from her offense to earn her second shutout victory of the season and ninth of her career.
     UAlbany, which was looking to beat Colgate for the third straight season, seized control early in the match. The visitors peppered Walsh with eight shots, including six on goal, in the opening 45 minutes. However, it was the hosts that got on the scoreboard first when Kinter took a pass from Alyssa Manoogian and beat goalkeeper Dani Britt by firing the ball to the right post in the 40th minute.
     After UAlbany rifled four straight shots at Walsh to open the second half, Colgate (2-6) once again took advantage of its limited opportunities and doubled its lead in the 60th minute when Baldwin finished a cross that was sent into the box by Danielle Wessler. Capped by Maggie DeVerna's attempt in the 89th minute, five different Great Danes combined to take six more shots at Walsh. However, the sophomore made four more stops to preserve the shutout win.
     Britt redirected four of the seven shots she faced for UAlbany in the losing effort. Colgate's Walsh made 13 saves on 19 chances to earn the victory.
     UAlbany (3-4) hosts Manhattan College of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Friday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m.
