West Hartford, Conn. - Breanna Maggio made three saves as UAlbany played Hartford to a 0-0 double-overtime tie in America East Conference women's soccer action on Sunday, Oct. 3 at Al-Marzook Field. The Great Danes outshot the Hawks, 18-7, but could not capitalize on their numerous opportunities and settled for one point in the league standings.
After Maggio made all three of her stops in the opening 30 minutes, UAlbany's solid back line consisting of Jess Baccaglini, Kendra Harrell-Vigil, Casey Marks and Katie Norwood did not give the Hawk forwards any good looks at the goal the rest of the way. The Great Danes, who peppered Hawk goalkeeper Lauren Brodeur with shots throughout the first 90 minutes, had their best chance to score at the end of regulation when Chrissy Klepper came down the endline and spotted the ball to Aubrey VanGorder at the near post. However, the freshman's shot in the 89th minute sailed just wide. VanGorder and Despina Psomopoulos each had opportunities to net the golden goal in the extra sessions, but Brodeur came up with two more key saves to preserve the scoreless draw.
UAlbany's Maggio stopped three of the seven shots she faced and extended her Division I program record for career shutouts to six by recording her third clean sheet of the season. Brodeur made five saves on 18 opportunities for Hartford (4-6-3, AE 1-0-2) to earn her league-leading fifth shutout this fall.
UAlbany (5-6-1, AE 0-1-1) will continue America East play on Thursday, Oct. 7 when it hosts New Hampshire at 3 p.m.
