Albany, N.Y. ? Sara Flowers headed a ball over the out-stretched hands of UAlbany goalie Maria Liguori to lead Hartford to a 1-0 win over the Great Danes in America East Conference women's soccer action on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Varsity Field. The Great Danes are now 4-9-3 (AE 1-6-0), while the Hawks improve to 6-6-4 (AE 4-1-2).
Hartford broke the scoreless tie just eight minutes into the second half when Ashley Carreira lobbed a ball into the box that Flowers redirected with her head into the net for the game-winner. UAlbany threatened to send the match into overtime with just over three minutes remaining when Diana Barrera sent a shot that struck off the far post and was recovered by Hawks' keeper Elizabeth Cook.
UAlbany had a 14-13 advantage in shots taken and both sides put seven shots on goal. Liguori made six saves, while Cook made seven stops in the shutout.
The Great Danes honored eight seniors prior to the game for their dedication and contribution to the program. Meghan Garrity, Rachel Boles, Alicia Gibson, Adrienne Heady, Uju Ogbuawa, Scovia Oraro, Jaclyn Schaaf, and Kaylin Connolly will play their final home game on Tuesday, Oct. 30 against Delaware State.
UAlbany will conclude America East Conference action on Sunday, Oct. 28 at UMBC.
