BOSTON - The University at Albany men's track and field program earned two of three America East weekly awards, announced Tuesday.
Senior
Hassan Abidi was named the Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season while freshman
Tooni Ogunyeye earned the Rookie of the Week nod for the fifth time.
A native of Rades, Tunisia, Abidi broke an 18-year-old record in the 800m at the prestigious Florida Relays. He finished 11th with a 1:47.60 and is now ranked 13th in the nation and first in the conference.
Ogunyeye earned a first place finish in the 100m running a wind-aided 10.39 (2.7) at the Dog Fight Invite. His time is ranked second in the Northeast and the conference.
The UAlbany men's track and field now has 12 weekly awards throughout the 2024-25 season. Overall, the track and field teams have earned 24 weekly awards in 2024-25 (including the women's awards from this week).
After taking a week off, the track and field programs will return to competition with two meets in one weekend - the Pepsi Florida Relays (April 4-5) and the UConn Dog Fight Invite (Apr. 5).
The Great Danes will continue their outdoor schedule at RPI's Under the Lights competition (Apr. 10-11) and Providence's Friar Invitational (Apr. 11).
