GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany holds a 6-12 record after the final regular-season tournament.
  • With an 0-9 start to the season, the Great Danes closed the Make It Happen Games with a 5-4 win over Bethune-Cookman (Mar. 2).
  • UAlbany participated in the GW Invitational (Mar. 8-9) hosted by George Washington in Washington, D.C. They played for two wins and two losses. Both wins came against Manhattan and both losses to the host, GW.
  • Most recently, the Great Danes competed in the Mount Softball Invitational in Emmitsburg, Maryland. They won three of the four games with two of the wins coming in six innings against the host, Mount St. Mary's.  
  • Army and UAlbany will be meeting for the second time in less than a week after both competing in the Mount Softball Invitational.
  • Freshman Ava Beal has become a recent leader to the Great Dane offense. With seven starts, she is hitting .423. She leads the team in both batting average (.423) and OPS (.846). 
  • Freshman Charlotte Lomb follows behind Beal with a .314 batting average and 11 hits. 
  • Sophomore transfer Taylor Quinn is leading the team with five extra-base hits - two doubles and three triples.
  • Senior Caitlyn Frederick has started all 18 games and takes advantage of getting on base with a conference-high eight stolen bases in nine attempts. 
 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Hayley Wieczerzak threw for 15 strikeouts in 6.0 innings in the Great Danes 8-0 win on Friday against Mount St. Mary's. With the shutout, Wieczerzak gave up only one hit and one walk. 
  • Three pitchers for the Great Danes are splitting time in the circle. Redshirt-senior Kate Powers and freshman Hailey Errichiello have spent equal time in the circle (39.0 IP each). Wieczerzak has seen 26.2 innings but leads with 39 strikeouts. 
 
2025 WEEKLY AWARDS  
ABOUT ARMY
  • The Black Knights have started the season 12-11 while participating in the Southern California Tour (Feb. 7-9), Columbus Classic (Feb. 14-16), the Mardi Gras Mambo (2/28-3/1) and the Mount Softball Invitational (Mar. 15-16). 
  • They picked up big wins against Loyola Marymount on (Feb. 7), UC Riverside (Feb. 8), and Tennessee Tech (Feb. 15).
  • Most recently, Army matched UAlbany and went 3-1 at the Mount Softball Invitational.
  • At the plate, the Black Knights are led by Ashton White, hitting .395, and Sienna Tepley, hitting .358. 
  • Caitlyn Newburn is leading the team with four home runs and 16 RBI. 
  • In the circle, Breanna Izzo and Amanda Eaglin lead the way. Izzo holds a 3.41 ERA over 61.2 innings pitched and has racked up 49 strikeouts. Eaglin has pitched 51.1 innings and has struck out 42 batters.
 
SERIES AGAINST ARMY
  • The Great Danes lead the series, 19-10.
  • Most recently, UAlbany and Army split in their matchups this past weekend at the Mount Softball Invitational. 
  • The Great Danes took the first game of the weekend with a 6-4 win. The Black Knights won the second matchup, 5-2. 
  • A consistent matchup for both teams, UAlbany swept Army in a midweek doubleheader on April 23, 2024.
 
PICKED FIRST
  • The Great Danes were picked to finish first in the 2025 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll
  • UAlbany earned 23 points with three first-place votes.
  • Binghamton was close behind UAlbany with 22 points and two first-place votes.
  • Kate Powers and Mary Kate Murray made the first-ever preseason all-conference team.
 
2025 PRESEASON AWARDS  
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • Binghamton leads the conference with the only winning record (14-9).
  • Bryant follows with a record of 7-13.
  • UAlbany rounds out the top three with a 6-12 record through four weeks of competition.
  • Maine and UMBC each have six wins. The Black Bears have 14 losses while the Retrievers have lost 18 games. 
  • UMass Lowell has won two games in 15 contests.
