UAlbany Athletics Opens Hall of Fame Nominations for Class of 2025

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany has opened the nomination period for the 2025 Athletics Hall of Fame Class. From Saturday, February 1 through Tuesday, April 1, individuals may submit nominations for consideration for this year's class on the UAlbany Athletics Hall of Fame site, HERE.
 
Nomination submissions are open to anyone in each of the four available categories.  The criteria for each are listed below:
 
Student-Athlete Nominees
A person nominated to the UAlbany Athletic Hall of Fame, as a student-athlete must have:
  • Participated in athletics for a minimum of two years on the intercollegiate level at the University.
  • Been out of college for a minimum of five years.
  • Participated at a level of achievement to be determined by the UAlbany Hall of Fame Committee.
  • Must have earned a degree from UAlbany.
Individual nominees not selected will remain active for three years from the date of their initial nomination.
 
Athletic Staff Nominees
A person nominated for the UAlbany Hall of Fame, as an Athletic Staff Member must:
  • Have been a member of the University community for a minimum of five years.
  • Have made an outstanding contribution to the athletic program.
 
Teams
A Team nominated for the UAlbany Hall of Fame will:
  • Have completed their season a minimum of 10 years prior to nomination
  • Have completed an outstanding season defined in part to include;
    • NCAA Champion or participation in an NCAA Championship.
    • An undefeated regular season.
  • Received conference, regional, state or district recognition for high-level of achievement.
  • The induction of a Team does not preclude the induction of an individual from said team.
  • In review of candidacy, a team's academic performance will be considered.
 
Honorary Membership
Honorary membership in the UAlbany Athletic Hall of Fame shall be permitted to honor and/or memorialize persons who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to and support of the university and who have made significant contribution(s) to the advancement of the university's intercollegiate athletic program but who are ineligible for other categories of membership in the UAlbany Athletic Hall of Fame.
 
Posthumous Membership
A posthumous membership may be awarded and the ordinary five-year waiting period waived when all other criteria for membership are clear, distinguished and outstanding.
 
2024 saw the induction of four individuals and one team – track & field's Grace Claxton '17, football's Mike Simpson, men's lacrosse's Merrick Thomson '07 '09, men's soccer's Lee Tschantret '90, and the 2014 field hockey team.

To date, the UAlbany Athletics Hall of Fame has enshrined 38 classes, starting with the inaugural class in 1984.  It includes such prominent members of UAlbany Athletics history as Bob Ford and Richard "Doc" Sauers.
