Softball Ready for the Annual Spring Games

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany softball team will continue their tournament schedule at the Spring Games, March 1-3.
 
Tickets are required for admission to the Spring Games. They can be purchased at a discounted price online (see below) or on-site (cash only).

GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany started the season at NC State's Wolfpack Classic. Tallying one win in two games over Iona, the Great Danes fell in both games against the ACC host.
  • In one weekend of play, graduate student Maddi Petrella leads with a .583 batting average from seven hits, including three doubles and one home run, in 12 at bats.
  • Senior Jordan Nastos follows with a .455 batting average with five hits, including two doubles.
  • Petrella also owns a team-high 6 RBI with graduate student Morgan Petty and freshman Mary Kate Murray following with four and three RBI, respectively.
  • From the circle, graduate student Wendi Hammond pitched two complete games in addition to the final 5.2 innings in the 10-7 win over Iona. In 16.1 IP on the weekend, she has struck out 12 batters.
 
ABOUT WESTERN MICHIGAN
  • The Broncos have played in two tournaments for a 4-4 record on the season - the UTEP Memorial Tournament (Feb. 9-11) and the Roar City Invitational (Feb. 16-18).
  • Starting all eight contests, Riley Dittmar leads with a .476 batting average with 10 hits, including three doubles and one triple, for a team-high nine RBI.
  • Payton Kelly leads the team with 11 hits while following Dittmar with a .407 batting average. 
  • Megan Welsh (2) and Kelly (1) have hit the Broncos 2024 home runs.
  • Rissa Bajusz leads in the circle with not only three complete games but also a 1.04 ERA. Totaling 39 strikeouts, she owns three wins, including one shutout.
 
ABOUT QUINNIPIAC
  • The Bobcats own a 1-1 record after opening the season at the Lion Classic (Feb. 10).
  • Natalia Apatiga leads the team with a .667 batting average from the two contests. With a team-high three RBI, she is tied with 2023 leader, Mary Fogg with four total hits.
  • Fogg follows Apatiga with a .500 batting average in eight at bats.
  • In the circle for both games, Sydney Horan leads with a 1.11 ERA through 6.1 innings. She has pitched six strikeouts with just one walk.
 
ABOUT ST. BONAVENTURE
  • The Bonnies started their season with five losses at the Spring Games (Feb. 23-25) before returning this weekend for more.
  • Kymora Wang leads the team with a .500 batting average from six singles.
  • Seeing time in all five games, Olivia Moon holds a team-high three RBI.
 
ABOUT MONMOUTH
  • The Hawks have competed in three tournaments for a 5-10 record on the 2024 season - the Dr. Diane Natalicio Memorial Tournament (Feb. 9-11), the Winthrop Eagle Classic (Feb. 16-18), and the Wings Etc. Tournament (Feb. 23-25).
  • Mackenzie Bloss leads the team with a .386 batting average from 17 hits while starting all 15 games. She also owns a team-high nine RBI.
  • Savannah Simons follows closely with a .375 batting average from a team-high 18 hits.
  • Starting 10 games, Billie Kerwood leads with three wins and four complete games, including one shutout.
 
ABOUT SACRED HEART
  • The Pioneers opened the season with one tournament - the UNCG Tournament - and a home game against Fordham. They own a 2-4 record.
  • Emily Carroll leads the team with a .421 batting average on eight hits. Tallying three RBI, she has crossed home for a team-high four runs.
  • Leading the team with five RBI, Charlene Davis follows with a .300 batting average.
  • Starting two games and pitching two complete games, Sam Kowalski leads in the circle with 17.0 innings pitched and 19 strikeouts.
 
PICKED FOURTH
  • The Great Danes were picked to finish fourth in the 2024 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
  • UAlbany tallied 14 points and no first-place votes.
  • UMBC topped the poll with 23 points and four first-place votes while Binghamton followed closely with 22 points and two first-place votes. 
  • UMass Lowell sat just above UAlbany with 17 points.
  • Maine (9) and Bryant (4) followed to close out the poll.

  • The Great Danes will head to Maryland to compete in the Mount St. Mary's Softball Tournament (Mar. 9-10).
