GENEVA, N.Y. - University at Albany senior
Alison Smisdom has been named First Team All-America, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced Tuesday.
Finishing the season fourth in the nation in goals per game (1.05) and points per game (2.42) for the second year in a row, Smisdom led the team with 20 goals and 46 points. Fresh off her second NFHCA Northeast Regional Player of the Year and third consecutive America East Midfielder of the Year awards, she has earned her third First Team All-American honor in as many years.
A midfielder from Antwerp, Belgium, Smisdom finished the 2024 season leading the team in goals and points for the fourth consecutive season. The only Great Dane to tally multiple defensive saves this season, she stopped six shots, good for seventh in the nation.
Smisdom's national award is the latest in a long line of honors since her freshman year. This year alone, she was named a four-time First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region honoree along with her third AE Midfielder of the Year and second NFHCA Northeast Regional Player of the Year awards previously mentioned.
Smisdom became just the second Great Dane, after Paula Heuser '17, to become a First Team All-American when she earned the award as a sophomore in 2022. Now a three-peat, she is one of two Great Danes to earn All-American status at least three times - Heuser was a four-time All-American (three-time First Team).
