SHORT STORY: The Great Danes gained an early lead on their way to a victory in the First Round of the America East Championship Tournament, Wednesday.

KEY STATS
- Junior Jordan Nastos led with two RBI and two hits.
- In four at bats, senior Caitlyn Mitros added one RBI from two hits, including one double.
- Sophomore Sierra Fretz added a double for an RBI.
- Overall, six different Great Danes tallied at least one RBI while eight different student-athletes notched a hit and/or a run.
- Senior pitcher Wendi Hammond started and pitched three innings with four strikeouts.
- Redshirt-sophomore Kate Powers pitched the final four innings for the game win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Bears started the game right away with a leadoff single.
- Jordan Nastos earned the first Great Dane hit with a single through the right side.
- After stealing both second and third, Nastos made it home on a single from Morgan Petty.
- Maine added two singles in the top of the second before Wendi Hammond pitched three-straight strikeouts.
- With four hits, UAlbany added four runs in the bottom of the second.
- The Great Danes started the inning with three-straight hits - a single from Sara Anderson, a double from Sierra Fretz, and a single from Chloe Lewis. Anderson and Fretz each scored on the hit following their own.
- Kasey Conn added a run for UAlbany with a groundout that brought Lewis home.
- Jordan Nastos notched her first of two RBI as she drove in Deanna Grahek.
- After a scoreless third inning, the Great Dane defense tallied three-straight outs in the top of the fourth - all of which Kate Powers had a part in.
- Knocking a double to third base, Caitlyn Mitros drove in Kasey Conn before scoring what proved to be the final UAlbany run off a single from Nastos.
- The Black Bears loaded the bases in the top of the fifth but the Great Danes held off the base runners with a third out from Deanna Grahek.
- Maine scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take away the UAlbany shutout.
- The Great Danes closed the game with three final outs in the seventh to take the 7-3 victory.
NEXT: UAlbany is set to play second-seeded Binghamton in the 1:30 pm game on Thursday, May 11.
