How it Happened
- The University at Albany women's soccer program returned home to Casey Stadium on Sunday and hosted the defending America East champion New Hampshire Wildcats. The Great Danes most recently rallied and scored two goals in the final four minutes to force a tie at Binghamton, while New Hampshire most recently hosted UMass Lowell and played the River Hawks to a scoreless draw.
- Sunday was UAlbany's Pink Game, in recognition of breast cancer awareness. The team wore ping warm-up tops during pregame warmups.
- In the 21st minute, New Hampshire sent a shallow serve into the UAlbany box. Great Danes' goalkeeper Megan Hart stepped up to intercept the ball, and denied the secondary effort by the crashing New Hampshire forward to prevent a goal.
- The Great Danes pushed the ball into the middle of the New Hampshire box in the 28th minute. The ball was knocked around, with neither UAlbany able to direct it towards goal nor New Hampshire able to successfully clear. The ball spit out to Hailey Hnis to the right, who took a shot away from New Hampshire goalkeeper, Sally Rainey, to put the Great Danes up 1-0. It was UAlbany's second-earliest goal of the season so far, and just their second scored in a first half.
- In the 30th minute, Selma Elverum, who scored both goals for the Great Danes in the team's last game at Binghamton, nearly put UAlbany up 2-0, breaking behind the Wildcats' defense and getting a touch on the ball, but the shot was saved by Rainey.
- Despite leading 1-0 at the break, UAlbany had been outshot by New Hampshire 5-3 over the duration of the first half. Additionally, New Hampshire drew three corner kicks in the first 45 minutes, while UAlbany drew none.
- New Hampshire scored early in the second half to tie the game at one. Chloe DeLyser played the ball up and to the left to Meghan Guarante, who dribbled into the UAlbany box. She fired a shot, close-range, directly at Hart, guarding the near post. Hart got her hands on the ball but it deflected upwards into the top netting for the score.
- Just five minutes later, in the 57th minute, Guarante served the ball into the box off a corner kick. The serve found the head of Megan Logue, who headed it towards the near post, and out of the reach of Hart. Senior defender Charlotte Takacsy was positioned on the near post, backing up Hart, and deflected the ball away from goal, but just a split-second too late and not before the ball crossed the line to put the Wildcats up 2-1.
- Hart made three big saves in the 67th, 68th, and 69th minutes to keep New Hampshire's lead at 2-1. The Wildcats created clear shots on all three but Hart was up for the challenge and denied each.
- The Great Danes managed one final shot for the duration of the game, in the 87th, on frame, but saved, from Tiffany Bernot. The Great Danes controlled possession for 52% of gametime, and drew all three of its corner kicks in the second half, including two in the 79th minute and later.
Next: UAlbany visits Bryant on October 8.
