Head Coach Sade Ayinde: "The efforts by both our team and Bryant made this a highly competitive match. Ashley had a great strike from outside the box to get us on the board. Even after Bryant tied it up,I think we competed well to create some chances and defensively worked to limit chances on our goal. Luckily we get to build off of this on Sunday up in Maine."
How it Happened
- In the ninth minute, Joanna Van Royen received a through ball up the right side. After getting cut off by the Bryant defense, Van Royen drew the ball back to Ashley Ladner, who took a shot, one-touch, that sailed over the Bulldogs' goalkeeper's head and into the far corner netting to put UAlbany up 1-0 early. It was Ladner's first career goal.
- UAlbany nearly scored again in the 23rd minute when Sahara Zingano dribbled herself open in the middle of the Bryant box. Her shot, low and center, was saved by Bryant goalkeeper Kate McNeil.
- Bryant tied the game at one in the 30th minute. Emma Pedolzky played Makayla Griffin forward, and Griffin took a shot that beat UAlbany goalkeeper Megan Hart to the left side netting.
- The score remained locked at one at halftime, with UAlbany holding a small edge in shots taken over the Bulldogs, 9-6. Both goalkeepers had made two saves in the first 45 minutes.
- UAlbany and Bryant each nearly scored to break the tie in the second half, on plays that mirrored each other. A shot attempt broke through the defense but the trailing player was called offsides, erasing what otherwise would have been an uncontested goal. UAlbany's call came in the 52nd minute and Bryant's came in the 86th.
- The game ended in a 1-1 draw, earning both teams a point in the conference standings. UAlbany remained unbeaten against America East opponents, and has now accumulated seven points in three games. The Great Danes controlled 54% of possession after the first half, and that rate increased to 57% after halftime.
Next: UAlbany visits Maine on October 2.
