SHORT STORY: Southern Mississippi scored first but the Great Danes worked to tie the score and send the game into an extra inning before the Golden Eagles took the win, Sunday morning.

SCORE: Southern Mississippi 5, UAlbany 4
 
KEY STATS

• Four Great Danes led with two hits each - Caitlyn Mitros, Alexis Phillips, Katie Falotico, and Schuyler Ossman.
• Mitros led with two runs while pinch runners, Christie Collins and Caitlyn Frederick, scored one apiece.
• Phillips and Maddi Petrella tallied the team's two RBI.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Southern Mississippi started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with one run.
• Both UAlbany and USM saw three-straight outs in the second inning while the Golden Eagles added a second run in the third.
• The Great Danes tied the score in the fifth inning with runs by Collins and Mitros.
• Petrella put UAlbany ahead, 3-2, with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning.
• Southern Miss took back the lead in the bottom of the sixth with two runs for a 4-3 lead.
• Tying the game, once again, Phillips notched her second single of the matchup to send Mitros through home.
• Despite two hits in the bottom of the seventh, the Great Danes held off the Golden Eagles offense, leaving two on base and sending the game into extra innings.
• UAlbany earned two hits in the eighth inning but Southern Mississippi scored a run to win the game, 5-4.

 
NEXT: The Great Danes will head to Towson for five games from March 11-13.
