SHORT STORY: The Great Danes bats were firing but it wasn't enough as Monmouth and Towson took the wins, Friday.
GAME ONE
SCORE: Monmouth 9, UAlbany 8
KEY STATS
- Caitlyn Mitros led the team batting .800 (4-5) against the Hawks.
- Morgan Petty followed with three hits from four at-bats.
- Petty and Katie Falotico led the team with two RBI each.
- Mitros and Maddi Petrella tallied UAlbany's two multi-base hits with a double each.
- The Great Dane pitcher totaled six strikeouts with Wendi Hammond compiling four in 4.0 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Monmouth started scoring right away, tallying three runs from a homer in the first inning.
- The Great Danes followed with two singles in the first. Katie Falotico drove in Alexis Phillips to make the score 3-1, Monmouth, at the end of the inning.
- Wendi Hammond and the UAlbany defense tallied three-straight outs, including two strikeouts, in the top of the second.
- After getting on base, Caitlyn Frederick attempted the steal but was caught. Her attempt led to a run from Lové Drumgole to close the lead.
- Morgan Petty notched a single to center field for an RBI to the score, 3-3, before closing out the inning.
- The Hawks extended their lead by one in the third and two in the fourth. As the Great Danes took to the dugout in the middle of the fourth, they were down, 6-3.
- Drumgole, Caitlyn Mitros, and Phillips tallied runs in subsequent plays to tie the game before Petty totaled the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- Phillips extended the lead in the fifth with an RBI.
- Monmouth came back in the final two innings with a run in the sixth to make the score 8-7, UAlbany, and two runs in the seventh to take a 9-8 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UAlbany started the scoring in the first inning with an RBI from Maddi Petrella.
- Towson answered with two hits for 2 RBI each to take the lead, 4-1.
- The Tigers extended their lead with a three-run homer in the bottom of the second.
- The Great Danes notched three-straight outs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, including a strikeout from Amelia Freitas in the third.
- Morgan Petty added an RBI on the day for the Great Danes' second run against Towson.
- After tallying their fourth inning with three-straight outs, UAlbany was unable to score in the seventh and the Tigers took the Friday afternoon win.
NEXT: With the rest of the weekend at Towson being canceled, the Great Danes are scheduled to open their home slate with a doubleheader against CCSU on March 16.
