How it Happened
- UAlbany controlled the first half, holding an advantage on shots taken, 6-1. Â Despite the advantage in shots, the Great Danes struggled to score, only putting three of their six shots on target, and the first half ended 0-0.Â
- Sahara Zingano gave the Hartford defense issues in the first half as she used her pace to beat defenders down the left wing, which resulted in two shots from the senior.Â
- Hartford had a chance to take a lead in the 49th minute when Ishani Sharma got in behind the UAlbany defense, but Megan Hart came off her line, beating Sharma to the ball and kept the match scoreless.Â
- Emily Jozak had two quick chances on goal mid-way through the second half. In the 73rd, Jozak ripped a shot low, saved by Hartford keeper Abigail McCarthy. In the 74th, Jozak chipped a shot from the right side over McCarthy that ricocheted off the bottom of the crossbar and away from the goal.
- Jozak's efforts paid off in the 81st minute with her seventh goal of the season to put UAlbany up 1-0. Charlotte Takacsy threw the ball in to Ashley Ladner, who was covered by a Hartford defender. The ball came back to Takacsy, who pushed it forward to Jozak breaking towards the Hartford box. Jozak lofted the ball over McCarthy to put the Great Danes up 1-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining
- The Great Danes nearly added a second in the 86th minute when Ladner beat the defender on the dribble giving herself an open shot on goal at the top of the box, but her shot missed just high over the crossbar for a Hartford goal kick.Â
- UAlbany held on to win by the same score, 1-0, closing out their regular season at home with a victory over their former America East rival. The Great Danes outshot the Hawks 16-5 overall, and the UAlbany defense held Hartford's leading scorer Imani Jenkins to just one shot taken. Jenkins had previously scored 14 goals in the Hawks' 12 games before playing the Great Danes Thursday night.
- Hart recorded two saves on the night, both of which came in the second half. She further recorded her second shutout of the season, and first since doing so against UMass Lowell on September 25.
Next: UAlbany closes the 2022 regular season with a trip to defending America East champion Vermont on October 27.
