How it Happened
- UAlbany controlled the pace of the first half, holding an advantage on shots taken at a rate of 8-4. Â Despite the strong half the Great Danes only put three of their eight shots on target and went into the half in a deadlocked tie.Â
- NJIT had a chance to strike first in the 11th minute, when UAlbany goalkeeper Megan Hart was caught off her line, but Carly Binn was in position to make the goal line clearance to keep the game level at zero.Â
- The Great Danes had a chance to take a lead just before halftime when Sahara Zingano sent in a cross from the right wing, finding Casey Stowell, whose header was reached in time by NJIT goalkeeper Samantha Constantine.Â
- NJIT created another chance deep in UAlbany territory. Off a corner kick in the 52nd minute, the Highlanders pushed the ball away from Hart, only to find Binn protecting the goal line again. NJIT recovered the rebounded and took another shot that Hart saved. In the scrum, Hart drew a foul for a free kick against the Highlanders' strikers to end the threat.
- UAlbany took a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute when Selma Elverum received the ball on the left wing and whipped in a pass to the near corner to Emily Jozak who dinked it past the Constantine with her head for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
- NJIT equalized the game in the 71st minute when Riley Jones attempted a shot from outside the top of the box, which beat Hart and made its way into the bottom left corner.Â
- Olivia Piraino had a chance to win it for the Great Danes in the 90th minute, beating two defenders on the dribble inside the box, before putting it wide for a goal kick. It was the final attempt for either team and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
- UAlbany pressured NJIT all game, and especially in the second half, outshooting the Highlanders 13-5 after halftime. The Great Danes also drew nine total corner kicks to NJIT's three, including five in the second half.Â
