Short Story: A strong 3-for-3 performance at the plate from Shaye Swiatek propelled the University at Albany softball team to its third consecutive victory victory, with an 8-3 win against Robert Morris on Friday afternoon at the La Quinta Inn and Suites Classic.
Highlights:
Katie Falotico and Swiatek garnered three hits and one RBI apiece. Falotico (3-4) scored two runs in the outing.
Seven different Great Danes posted hits in the outing.
UAlbany boasted a season-high 12 hits and eighth runs in the contest.
Celeste Verdolivo (7.0 innings) struck out a season-best six batters in the circle.
Recap: The Great Danes picked up their third consecutive win on Friday afternoon, using balanced offense to take down Robert Morris, 8-3, on Friday afternoon.
Five different players picked up an RBI in the game, while three players posted multi-hit performances.
Robert Morris broke open the scoring in the third inning, plating Taylor Bartlow who earlier reached base on an error. After moving over to second on a fielder's choice, Bartlow made her away across the plate on an outfield single by Natalie Higgins.
The Great Danes did not trail for long as UAlbany responded with a four-spot in the home half of the third inning. Swiatek knotted the game 1-1, advancing home on a Robert Morris throwing error, before Falotico plated Love Drumgole on an RBI single. Falotico scored two batters later, tagging up on a line drive out from Chelsea Henige.
Taryn Miller brought the Colonials within a run, 4-3, with a two-run blast in the fourth inning.
UAlbany's offense continued to work at the plate, adding four insurance runs in the fifth inning. Henige, Sarah Petzold, Mariah Miramontez and Swiatek each plated a runner in the inning to help their team secure the 8-3 victory.
Celeste Verdolivo, who leads the team with six wins, went the distance in the circle, striking out six.
