Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision at Boston U.; Great Danes Tied for Fourth Place

Boston, Mass. - Lisa Kevorkian converted a penalty kick late in the first half and Tiya Gallegos added an insurance tally in the waning minutes of the second frame to give Boston University a 2-0 victory over UAlbany in America East Conference women's soccer action on Thursday, Oct. 21 at Nickerson Field.
The two hottest back lines in the league continued to be impenetrable in the first half until Kevorkian buried a penalty kick following an inadvertent hand ball by a Great Dane defender. Kevorkian's marker in the 41st minute of the match was the first goal scored against UAlbany in 393:15.
Boston U. (13-5-0, AE 7-0-0), which clinched its fourth consecutive America East regular-season title with the victory, came close to doubling its lead in the 79th minute when Kevorkian hammered a header towards the back of the net. However, Maggio made a point-blank save on the goal line to keep the visitors in the match. With time winding down, Gallegos put the match away and produced the final outcome by firing a laser from 25 yards out to the upper 90 of the net in the 87th minute.
Boston U. outshot UAlbany, 17-3, and had a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks. Maggio made six saves on 17 opportunities for the Great Danes. Kelly King and Alice Binns combined for the Terriers' 10th straight shutout. King made one stop on two chances in the first half and was credited with the victory, while Binns did not have to make a save and faced one shot.
UAlbany (8-7-2, AE 3-2-2), which had its five-match unbeaten streak snapped with the loss, will close out the regular season with postseason implications on the line when it hosts Vermont on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m.
