Danielle Hutcheson

Danielle Hutcheson, the most decorated women’s basketball player in the University at Albany’s Division I era, enters her first season as an assistant coach at her alma mater. She spent the past three seasons playing professionally overseas in Europe.

In her current role, Hutcheson will be responsible for coaching the post players. In addition, she will be in charge of creating and implementing the team’s strength and conditioning program while also overseeing alumni relations and the team’s community service activities.

The former Great Dane standout recently played overseas in Spain and Portugal as a professional. Hutcheson first was a member of Ollis Soller in Spain’s second division during the 2005-06 season. She played for Sant Antonio of the Portuguese League’s first division in 2006-07, where she was an all-star and garnered most valuable player laurels in the League Champions Tournament. After a year in the Portuguese League’s CAB Madeira, Hutcheson then returned to play in Spain’s second division as a member of C.D. Tanit Ibeza. This past April, she was invited by the WNBA’s Washington Mystics to participate in the organization’s training camp.

Hutcheson is the lone UAlbany player to be voted to the All-America East Conference first team.  She received the honor in both the 2004 and 2005 campaigns.  The 6-foot-4 center was also named to the all-conference second team as a sophomore. Hutcheson holds the school record for career rebounds (976) and also ranks second all-time with 1,396 points and fourth with 127 blocked shots. In addition, Hutcheson’s career totals for points and blocked shots are the best marks in the team’s Division I history. For her efforts, she was named team MVP three times.

Hutcheson, who hails from Phoenix, Ariz., earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from UAlbany in 2005. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in psychology through the University of Phoenix.
