Mike McKercher joined the UAlbany Athletics staff as Associate Athletic Director for Development in September of 2023.
As Associate Athletic Director for Development, McKercher serves as a member of the department's leadership team and has sport supervisory responsibility for Women's Rowing. His primary responsibility is to strengthen philanthropic suppor for UAlbany's athletics program, with special emphasis on securing gifts of $25,000+, overseeing and generating revenue for the Great Dane Atheltic Club (GDAC), and managing the GDAC Advisory Board.
Prior to UAlbany, McKercher served as Associate AD for External Operations at Stetson University and as Assistant AD for Development at Binghamton University.
At Stetson he was a Member of the Athletic Senior Leadership team where he was responsible for athletic development, oversight of corporate sponsorships, athletic marketing, and promotions. As well as the administrative supervisor for Volleyball, Softball, Women's and Men's Rowing. McKercher was selected to attend TopConnect AD, a leadership symposium for aspiring Division I Athletics Directors in October 2020.
During his time at Binghamton McKercher secured funding through major gifts for projects such as locker room enhancements for men’s and women’s basketball, an update to the tennis complex and improvements to the Events Center concourse. In addition, he secured the first million-dollar gift in school history for the naming of the basketball court.
A 1996 graduate of SUNY Cortland, McKercher was a pharmaceutical sales representative for 12 years prior to joining Binghamton University in September of 2012. During his time in pharmaceutical sales, he received numerous awards for performance on both a regional and national level. He was twice named Regional Performer of the Year.
McKercher began his professional career as a physical education teacher and coach. He coached both football and lacrosse at Vestal High School.
McKercher played collegiate lacrosse at SUNY Potsdam, earning All-League honors as a defenseman. As a senior, he was team captain and was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year.
A native of Vestal, NY, McKercher and his wife, the former Karen Kaib, have four children – Connor, Devon, Braeden and Quinn.
