High School
Abara was a four-year letter-winner in track and field at Shaker High School, where he also played soccer for four years. In addition to serving as team captain of track and field, he was named to the Albany Times Union All-Area team for the 400 hurdles, and was a two-time All-County selection in both the 110 and 55 hurdles. He earned All-County selections in the 400 hurdles and 200-meter dash. During his tenure, he was a Sectional champion in the 55 hurdles, won a silver medal in the 400 hurdles at the Empire State Games, and helped his team win Suburban Council and Section II indoor and outdoor championships.

Personal
A native of Nigeria, Abara was born June 24, 1991 to Chinedu and Ngozi Abara. He has one brother, Chinalu, and one sister, Oechi. He is majoring in business administration.
