Matt Barber joined UAlbany as the head football strength & conditioning coach in the winter of 2017. Barber oversees all aspects of strength & conditioning for the Great Danes’ football program.

Previous to UAlbany, Barber served as an assistant strength & conditioning coach at the University of Arizona for the 2016 season, working with football, women's basketball, and men’s & women’s track & field.
 
From 2014 to 2015, Barber served as the assistant director of football strength & conditioning at the University of Maryland. Prior to the University of Maryland, Barber was an assistant director of strength & conditioning at the University of Nevada from 2012 to 2014. He first arrived in Reno as a graduate assistant strength & conditioning coach in the spring of 2012. Barber also completed internships at the University of Maine, University of Maryland, and the University of Iowa.

He is an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and holds certifications in the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and CPR/AED from the American Red Cross.
He graduated from Maine in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology and physical education - exercise science and was a three-year starter on the offensive line for the Black Bears. He earned his master’s degree from Nevada-Reno in educational leadership in 2015.
 
Barber currently resides in Clifton Park with his wife, Sara, and his son, Benny.
