Neely Named Sixth Man of the Year; Three Honored by America East

BOSTON – The UAlbany men's basketball program received recognition from the America East with three post-season honorees, including a major honor for Justin Neely, as announced by the conference office Friday morning.

Led by Neely, who was named the Sixth Man of the Year, Byron Joshua and Amir Lindsey were also rewarded for their work on the court this season, with Joshua being named All-Conference Third Team and Lindsey named to the All-Rookie Team.

Following two years of limited action due to injury, Justin Neely returned for his first full season with the Great Danes since earning America East Rookie of the Year in 2021-22. Coming off the bench in 19 of 29 total games played, with 208 total rebounds (58 off – 150 def), the fifth most of any America East player, the Miami, Florida native recorded the fourth highest average of rebounds per game in the conference with 7.2 per game. The redshirt junior also tallied the fourth most double-doubles around the league with six. In scoring, Neely recorded 340 points in 746 total minutes of work for an average of 11.7 points per game and 25.7 minutes per game. From the field, the forward shot just below .500, going 125-251 (.498%) from the field, and 7-31, (.226%) from the three-point line and 83-106 (.783%) from the charity line.

Byron Joshua earns third-team honors in his first season with the Great Danes after transferring from Alcorn State. The senior guard finished with the second most steals in the conference with 46 and averaged the second most per game at 1.7. The New Orleans native also finished in the top 10 in the conference and led the Great Danes in points per game with an average of 14.7 points per game in 27 games played. He also managed to be in the top 15 in the America East in total points (397), free throws (83), assists (79), and minutes (945:00). Joshua finished the regular season with 23 double-digit scoring games while coming close to a double-double in UAlbany's 74-66 win against Sacred Heart back on December 18 where he recorded 14 points with nine rebounds.

Amir Lindsey

Amir Lindsey settled into his first season with the Great Danes as the freshman earns all-rookie honors. Making his season against Army back on November 4, 2024, Lindsey recorded three points against the Black Knights before scoring double-digit figures throughout the next two games against SUNY Oneonta (Nov. 9), where he dropped a season-high 13 points and another 10 points at Dartmouth (11.13). The Framingham, Mass native led UAlbany in three-point percentage, shooting 30-81 (.370%) beyond the arc. In total, Lindsey tallied 172 points, averaging 5.9 per game, with 48 rebounds, 36 assists, 26 steals, and two blocks in 548 minutes per game for an average of 18.9 minutes per game where he came off the bench in 26 of 29 games played.
