ALBANY, N.Y. – The UAlbany baseball team will square off against Manhattan for their final home series of the season, starting 3 pm Friday.

Season Review
  • UAlbany owns a 13-29 record while going 8-12 in conference play.
  • Opening their season against #9 Tennessee (2.23-25), the Great Danes narrowly fell 5-8 in game one before being defeated 6-21 and 0-12.
  • Continuing their road stretch, UAlbany was swept in a three-game series by George Washington (3.3-3) and lost four contests to Purdue (3.9-10)
  • After falling to Army, the Great Danes were swept in a three-game series at Georgetown (3.15-17).
  • Opening conference play, UAlbany split a doubleheader against UMass Lowell (2.22) and then took two games in a three-game set against Maine (3.30-31).
  • The Great Danes defeated Siena (4.2), 17-12, in a crosstown matchup, before being swept by Bryant (4.6-7) and Marist (4.9) in a doubleheader.
  • After being swept by UMBC (4.12-14), UAlbany bounced back to defeat CCSU (4.16).
  • The Great Danes were swept at Binghamton (4.19-21) in a three-game series and lost to Le Moyne (4.23) in a midweek matchup.
  • The Great Danes enjoyed a six-game win streak, sweeping NJIT (4.26-28) in a three-game weekend series, defeating Marist (4.30) in a midweek contest, and defeating UMass Lowell (5.3-4) twice.
  • Most recently, UAlbany completed the season sweep over Siena (5.8) by defeating them in a doubleheader.  
  • Will Binder owns a team-high 50 hits with 17 extra-base hits, including 13 doubles, a triple, and three home runs.
  • Binder, Luke Filippi, and Jared Toby are tied with 27 RBIs for the most on the team.
  • Dylan Banner leads the rotation with a 6.39 ERA over 31 innings of work.
 
Heating Up
  • Last week, John Vitucci had a .500 batting average and .733 on-base percentage across four contests.
  • In the series against UMass Lowell, Will Binder recorded a .444 batting average with three RBIs.
  • Levi McAllister tallied seven RBIs in game two of the Siena doubleheader.
  • Dylan Banner pitched a complete game in the series opener against UMass Lowell, only allowing two runs and four hits while striking out five.
  • Matthew Mariano pitched a seven-inning complete game in game of the weekend series, striking out three batters while not giving up a walk.
 
Scouting Manhattan
The Jaspers have gone 17-28 this season with a 9-12 conference record.
  • Starting their season on the road, the Jaspers were swept by #18 Alabama (2.16-18) but bounced back to sweep Norfolk State (2.24-25).
  • After losing twice at Marshall (3.1-3), Manhattan went on a six-game losing streak falling four times at Gardner-Webb (3.8-10) and twice by Clemson (3.12-13).
  • Defeating Hofstra (3.15-17) twice, the Jaspers lost to St. John's (3.19), twice to Mount St. Mary's (3.22-24), and to Columbia (3.26).
  • Manhattan won their series against Canisius (3.28-30) before being swept by Saint Peter's (4.6-7) and falling to LIU (4.9) in a midweek battle.
  • Losing in their series to Iona (4.12-14), the Jaspers bounced back to defeat FDU (4.17) before falling twice at Marist (4.20-21).
  • Following a loss at Stony Brook (4.23), Manhattan won twice against Quinnipiac (4.26-28), once against Fordham (4.30), and twice against Siena (5.3-4).
  • Daniel Perez had led the way at the plate with a team-best .342 batting average and 36 runs scored.
  • Drew Wyers has slugged a team-high 11 doubles and recorded 37 RBIs.
  • Justin Solimine has been the ace for the Jaspers recording a 5.50 ERA across 55.2 innings of work.

2024 Captains
Will Binder, Connor Eisenmann, and Cregg Scherrer will serve as the captains for the Great Danes during the 2024 season. Binder enters his third season with UAlbany after starting his collegiate career at LaSalle. Since joining the Great Danes, he has started in 89 games and has a .325 batting average. Eisenmann returns to UAlbany for his fourth season. Through 37 appearances for the Great Danes, he has recorded a 5.93 ERA with 121 strikeouts and a .254 batting average against. Scherrer is a redshirt senior from Skaneateles, N.Y., entering his fifth season with the team. Appearing in 44 games, including 34 starts, Scherrer has struck out 195 batters and owns a 5.73 ERA.
 
2024 America East Preseason Poll
  • UAlbany was picked to finish seventh in the 2024 America East Preseason Poll, earning eight points.
  • The Bearcats were picked to finish first in the conference with 35 points, including five first-place votes.
  • Maine, the defending champions, followed closely behind with 31 points and two first-place votes.
  • UMBC (26) placed third, NJIT (19) fourth, and Bryant (18) fifth.
  • UMass Lowell (10) and UAlbany rounded out the poll.
 
America East Standings
Bryant sits on top of the conference table having won 14 games in 18 contests. UMBC is second with an 11-7 record with UMass Lowell trailing close behind having gone 10-10. NJIT and UAlbany both have earned eight wins with NJIT holding the advantage having lost three fewer games. Binghamton has a .389 conference win percentage. Maine rounds out the conference with a 6-11 conference record.
