Late Game Rally Comes Up Short for Softball

Location: Conaty Park - Smithfield, R.I.
 
Short Story: The University at Albany softball team put together a rally in the final inning of Sunday's ballgame at Bryant, but came up just short against the Bulldogs, 7-6.
 
Records: UAlbany 18-10, 7-4 America East | Bryant  23-11, 9-3 America East

Key Stats
  • Morgan Petty led the offense, going 3-4 at the plate with a solo home run. She also led the team with three runs.
  • Maddi Petrella also sent one over the fence, picking up two RBIs on an afternoon where she went 2-3 at the plate with a walk.
  • Victoria Vilarchao went 1-3 with an RBI double in the DP spot.
  • Mary Kate Murray collected an RBI, going 1-4 at the plate.
  • Wendi Hammond pitched six innings, giving up six earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.
 
How it Happened:
  • The Bulldogs started the scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first.
  • UAlbany tied it up in the third inning. Morgan Petty reached on an error from the Bryant third baseman, scoring Deanna Grahek from second. Petty later scored on an RBI single off the bat of Mary Kate Murray to knot it up at 2-2.
  • Bryant re-took the advantage in the fourth, 3-2, on a single to center.
  • Morgan Petty tied the game in the top of the fifth with a solo home run to left.
  • UAlbany took a 4-3 advantage later that inning on an RBI double from Victoria Vilarchao, scoring Jordan Nastos,
  • An RBI double in the fifth from the Bulldogs once again tied the game, this time at 4-4.
  • Bryant went up three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Two runs scored on a double in the left-center gap with two outs. Shortly after, another run was tacked on due to an RBI single to right, making it 7-4
  • Maddi Petrella sent one over the right field fence in the top of the seventh with two outs, giving the Great Danes life by bringing the score to 7-6.
 
Next: The Great Danes will travel to Providence this Thursday, April 18, to take on the Friars at 3:00 p.m.
