Softball Heads to Bryant

ALBANY, N.Y. - The UAlbany softball team heads to Bryant for a three-game weekend series.

GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany is 18-7 with a 7-1 America East record.
  • The Great Danes began the season at NC State's Wolfpack Classic (Feb. 16-17). Accumulating one win in two games over Iona, UAlbany fell in both games against the ACC host.
  • At the annual Spring Games competition (Mar. 1-3), the Great Danes added a 4-1 record. 
  • In their first doubleheader of the season, UAlbany split the results against FDU (Mar. 9).
  • Moving on with the UMBC Spring Invite (March. 15-16), the Great Danes notched a 3-1 record with games against Niagara and Wisconsin. After a shutout against each team on Saturday, UAlbany added two one-run games on Sunday, including a no-hitter against Wisconsin.
  • During the doubleheader at UMass, the Great Danes earned two victories (Mar. 27).
  • In their first conference series, UAlbany swept Maine with three victories, including one shutout (Mar. 30-31).
  • The Great Danes went 2-1 against UMBC to win the series (Apr. 6-7). After the single-game win on Saturday, the two teams split the doubleheader on Sunday.
  • Most recently during a midweek doubleheader, UAlbany won both games at UMass Lowell (Apr. 9).

AT THE PLATE
  • Graduate student Caitlyn Mitros leads the team with a .385 batting average from 30 hits in 78 at bats.
  • Four Great Danes follow with batting averages above .300 - freshman Mary Kate Murray (.381), redshirt-junior Victoria Vilarchao (.348), graduate student Maddi Petrella (.342), and senior Jordan Nastos (.338). 
  • Graduate student Morgan Petty owns a team-high 22 RBI and six home runs.
  • Three Great Danes have scored 19 times - Mitros, Nastos, and Petty. Petrella follows with 17 runs.
  • Petrella leads with 12 multi-base hits (eight doubles, four homers) and Petty follows closely with 11 (five doubles, six homers).
  • Sophomore Deanna Grahek and Nastos have hit the only two Great Dane triples.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Graduate student Wendi Hammond continues to serve as the Great Danes' starting pitcher.
  • Hammonds leads with 97.1 innings pitched, 11 complete games, 13 wins, and 62 strikeouts. 
  • Redshirt-junior Kate Powers maintains a team-low ERA of 1.17 and has gone 5-1 with 28 strikeouts this season. 
  • Junior Dominique Prevette has pitched for seven strikeouts in 18.1 innings pitched.
  • At the UMBC Spring Invite, Powers and Hammond combined for four complete games, including two shutouts and a no-hitter. Allowing just one earned run throughout the competition, Hammond ended the weekend with a 0.00 ERA while Powers tallied a 0.64 ERA.
  • In their AE-opening series, Powers pitched a complete game shutout for just the second time this season. She allowed only one hit and one walk on her way to a 0.00 ERA in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. 
 
ABOUT BRYANT
  • The Bulldogs are 20-11 on the season with a 6-3 conference record.
  • Bryant began their season with a winning streak at the Battle at the Bay (Feb. 16-17).
  • With two remaining tournaments, the Bulldogs went 1-4 at the Mercer Bear Invitational (Feb. 23-25) and 1-2 at the Black and Gold Tournament in Alabama (Mar. 2-3).
  • Before starting conference play, Bryant went on a six-game win streak with a doubleheader sweep over Yale (Mar. 12) and four wins at the Maryland Tournament, including over the host, Maryland (Mar. 15-17).
  • During their first conference series, the Bulldogs won twice in three games to earn the series win (Mar. 22, 24). 
  • After a midweek doubleheader sweep over Brown (Mar. 27), Bryant went 2-1 against UMass Lowell (Mar. 29-30).
  • In their most recent conference game series at Maine (Apr. 7-8), the Bulldogs won game one of  the doubleheader in five-innings and game three of the series, 7-1.
  • Alexis Clancy leads with a .377 batting average. Makenna Coleman is close behind with a .339 average and a team-high two triples.
  • Owning a .330 batting average, Aleix Hudson has tallied a team-high 31 RBI and 32 runs from six home runs, 12 doubles, and one triple.
  • Clancy follows Hudson with 10 doubles while she joins Sam Rohwer with five home runs to follow Hudson.
  • Kylie Kenney has spent the most time in the circle for the Bulldogs. With 68.2 innings pitched, she has six wins, four complete games, and 12 starts with 70 strikeouts.
  • Close behind is Grace Mckillop. She has pitched for 60.0 innings with seven wins, three complete games, eight starts and 33 strikeouts.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE BULLDOGS
  • The Great Danes lead the all-time series, 9-5.
  • In their first season competing as America East opponents, UAlbany swept Bryant in the regular-season contests. Winning both games in five innings the final scores were 9-0 and 8-0.
  • Morgan Petty and Maddi Petrella combined for three home runs in the first game while Wendi Hammond pitched a complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts.
  • Petty added a home run in the second game as Kate Powers pitched the whole shutout with five strikeouts.
  • The first matchup between the two teams was in 2009. It was a 2-0 shutout victory for the Great Danes.
 
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • UAlbany leads the conference with just one loss in eight league games.
  • Binghamton and Bryant are tied with a .667 winning percentage. The Bearcats have won four games in six contests while the Bulldogs have six wins in nine games.
  • UMBC sits just below .500 with a 4-5 AE record.
  • UMass Lowell owns one win in five league contests.
  • Maine earned their first conference win over the weekend. The team now holds a 1-8 record.
