SHORT STORY: A combination of good defense and well-timed hits led the Great Danes to earn two shutout victories on day one in Baltimore, Friday.
GAME ONE
RECORDS: UAlbany 7-5, 0-0 America East | Niagara 4-8, 0-0 MAAC
SCORE: UAlbany 2, Niagara 0
KEY STATS
- Senior Jordan Nastos led with two hits, including an RBI triple, in four at bats.
- Graduate student Morgan Petty added the second RBI and a hit.
- Sophomore Sara Anderson (one hit) and graduate student Caitlyn Mitros (one run) each contributed to the scoreboard.
- Graduate student Wendi Hammond pitched the complete-game win with three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Morgan Petty tallied the first hit of the game in the top of the first.
- After three consecutive outs in the first, the Great Dane defense allowed the first Niagara hit in the bottom of the second.
- After Caitlyn Mitros got on base in the third inning, Jordan Nastos knocked a triple to left field to drive in the first run.
- Petty followed it with a sac fly for the Great Danes' second run.
- UAlbany did not allow a Purple Eagle on base through the remainder of the third and fourth innings to hold on to the 2-0 lead.
- Despite two Niagara singles in the fifth, the Great Danes held off their advances and left both on base.
- UAlbany continued through the end of the game with a two-run lead to secure its first win of the weekend.

KEY STATS
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jordan Nastos started right away with a bunted single in the top of the first.
- After the Badgers followed with a single, UAlbany earned a double-play to end the inning with just three Wisconsin batters.
- Sophomore Deanna Grahek earned first on balls before advancing to second during a groundout.
- Nastos notched her RBI single with a hit to left field to drive in Grahek.
- Going 1-2-3 in the field, the Great Danes headed into the fourth inning with a 1-0 lead.
- After leaving one runner on base in the fourth, the UAlbany defense tallied three outs in three batters through the fifth and sixth innings.
- Putting two runners on base in the top of the seventh, Sara Anderson earned her RBI with a single up the middle to drive in junior Christie Collins and make it a 2-0 advantage.
- Leaving two runners on base, the Great Danes secured the shutout victory over Wisconsin.
NEXT: The Great Danes will compete against both the Purple Eagles and the Badgers again on Saturday (Mar. 16).
