Score: UAlbany 3, Rider 0

Location: Ben Cohen Field in Lawrenceville, N.J.

Short Story: UAlbany women's soccer bounces back into the win column with a shutout victory over Rider to close their three-game road swing.

Key Stats Head Coach Sade Ayinde: "It feels great to get a win and a shutout.  We went into this game with the goal of scoring first and getting our first shutout of the season, so I'm proud of the team working together to accomplish both of those goals.  We now have a week to prepare for our next two matches at home and hopefully we can get a result against tow well-coached opponents."

How it Happened
  • The University at Albany women's soccer team closed out a three-game road swing on Thursday with an afternoon match against Rider in New Jersey.  The Great Danes had dropped each of their previous three, but earned their first win of the season a year ago when playing Rider.
  • The Great Danes opened aggressively, launching six shots in the first 12 minutes, five of which tested Rider goalkeeper Ellie Sciancalepore.  Sciancalepore finished the first half making five saves.
  • Rider took its first shot of the game in the 14th minute that missed the mark wide right.  UAlbany had made a switch at goalkeeper for this game, with Gabriella Terranova making her first-ever start as a Great Dane, and second-ever appearance.
  • In the 27th minute, off a UAlbany throw in, Ashley Ladner received a pass at the top of the Rider box.  She stepped over the ball and turned back to fire a shot high over Sciancalepore's head.  The ball hit the bottom of the crossbar and ricocheted into the back of the net to put UAlbany up 1-0.  It was the Great Danes' first first-half goal of the season.
  • After halftime, UAlbany continued its barrage of shots, outshooting the Broncs 15-3 over the second half.  Selma Elverum broke through with her first goal of the season in the 79th minute to put UAlbany up 2-0.
  • In the 83rd minute, Joanna Van Royen scored to put UAlbany up 3-0.  The Great Danes had put 10 of their 15 shots of the second half on frame, leaving Sciancalepore to make 12 saves for the Broncs in defeat.
  • Six Great Danes recorded two or more shots during the game, led by Olivia Piraino with five overall and four on target.  In goal, Terranova earned her first career victory and shutout, making three saves on the afternoon.
