Key Stats How it Happened
  • The University at Albany women's soccer team played its second of three-straight games on the road Sunday, visiting former America East rival Boston University.  It was the first meeting between the teams since the Terriers left the America East for the Patriot League following the 2012-13 season.
  • Boston University struck first, scoring on a physical play in the 11th minute after colliding with UAlbany goalkeeper Megan Hart, who stayed in the game.  It was the only scoring play of the first half.
  • The Terriers held a 7-3 advantage in shots taken at halftime, but had put just one of their shots on target.  UAlbany also took one shot on goal, a Brooke Pickett effort that tested Terriers' goalkeeper Celia Braun in the 25th minute.
  • The Great Danes drew a penalty kick in the 58th minute.  Sophomore forward Hailey Hnis stepped up for the attempt and converted to tie the game at one with the first goal of her UAlbany career.
  • Four minutes later, Iola Cotter, deep in the Boston University box, got her head on a serve that skipped into Braun's hands.  Braun, however, bobbled the catch and the ball fell just over the Terriers' goal line to put UAlbany up 2-1.
  • Boston University rallied to score twice in the final 10 minutes of the game, and just one minute apart.  First, in the 82nd minute, a serve into the UAlbany box, one-touched by Lily Matthews, slipped through the Great Danes' defense to tie the game at two.  And in the 83rd, a Boston University corner kick found the head of Mackenzie Stickelman, who found the back of the net to retake the lead, 3-2.
  • Cotter nearly tied the game at three with a shot in the 85th minute that hit off the crossbar.  Tiffany Bernot put one final effort on target, saved by Braun, in the 89th minute.  Boston University held on to win by the same score, 3-2.
Next: UAlbany visits Rider on August 31.
