SHORT STORY: The Great Dane defense and offense worked together to play two five-inning shutout victories in a doubleheader against Bryant, Saturday.
GAME ONE
SCORE: UAlbany 9, Bryant 0 (5 innings)
KEY STATS
- Seniors Morgan Petty and Maddi Petrella led the team with three RBI each.
- In two at-bats, Petrella hit two home runs. Petty added a home run to the Great Danes' total.
- Five different Great Danes earned at least one hit. In addition to Petrella and Petty's homers, graduate student Chloe Lewis, senior Wendi Hammond, and junior Jordan Nastos each added a single.
- Hammond started in the circle and pitched all five innings for the complete-game shutout. Striking out nine batters, she notched a season-high in strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wendi Hammond started the game with three strikeouts in the first inning.
- After Morgan Petty walked, Maddi Petrella knocked her first home run over the right-field fence for two RBI and a 2-0 lead.
- Hammond added a fourth strikeout in the top of the second.
- In the bottom of the second, Hammond and Chloe Lewis tallied two-straight singles to put another run on the board.
- Jordan Nastos sent the ball into center field for another RBI.
- Two-straight home runs from Petty and Petrella made it an 8-0 game before the end of the second.
- With two strikeouts in the top of the third, Hammond struck out at least one batter as the Great Dane defense went three up, three down for the third-straight inning.
- Freshman Kasey Conn scored what proved to be the final run of the game in the bottom of the third.
- Bryant tallied its lone hit of the contest in the fourth inning.
- Hammond and the UAlbany defense finished the game with three-straight outs, including two strikeouts, in the fifth inning.

KEY STATS
- Morgan Petty led the Great Danes with five RBI in two at-bats.
- Sophomore Sierra Fretz followed with two RBI.
- Four of UAlbany's seven hits were multi-base hits - Jordan Nastos and freshman Kasey Conn notched a double while Petty and Fretz launched the ball over the fence for a home run each.
- Fretz led from the box with two hits in three at-bats.
- Redshirt-sophomore Kate Powers started in the circle and pitched for the complete-game shutout while adding four strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bryant opened the game with a single but the baserunner was left on second.
- Jordan Nastos grabbed a leadoff double and Caitlyn Mitros followed with a bunt.
- Morgan Petty earned her first RBI as she drove Nastos home with a groundout.
- With three-straight outs in the top of the second, Kate Powers struck out her first batter of the contest.
- Sierra Fretz opened the second inning with a single and soon the bases were loaded with Chloe Lewis, freshman Deanna Grahek, and Fretz.
- Mitros and Petty added an RBI each as they batted in Fretz and Grahek, respectively.
- The Great Dane defense went three up, three down in both the third and fourth innings.
- Kasey Conn slammed the ball deep into right-center field to get on base with a double before Nastos took first base from four balls.
- Petty knocked a home run over right field to give UAlbany a 6-0 lead before the end of the fourth inning.
- The Bulldogs added their second and final hit in the fifth inning.
- After a single from pinch-hitter senior Schuyler Ossman, Fretz hit a walk-off home run into left-center to give the Great Danes their second-straight five-inning win, 8-0.
NEXT: The Great Danes will close out the three-game series against Bryant on Sunday (April 23).
