GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany opened the 2023 season in Conway, South Carolina at the Chanticleer Showdown (Feb. 24-26) before heading to the Spring Games at Madeira Beach (Mar. 3-5).
  • In a slow start to the season, the Great Danes tallied a 1-4 record at Coastal Carolina. Earning a win over Mount St. Mary's (2.25), UAlbany fell twice to host Coastal Carolina and Saint Joseph's.
  • At the Spring Games, the Great Danes worked for two shutout wins over LIU (3.3) and Georgetown (3.4) but fell to Southeastern Louisiana (3.3), Creighton (3.4), and MTSU (3.5).
  • In their final tournament of the season (Mar. 18-19), UAlbany went 2-1 with wins over Lafayette and a loss to the host, Mount St. Mary's.
  • Returning home, the Great Danes hosted Siena (3.22) for a doubleheader sweep. 
  • UAlbany opened conference play with a doubleheader sweep over UMass Lowell (3.26) before splitting a doubleheader at Maine (3.31)
  • Continuing conference play, the Great Danes fell 1-2 in a three-game series at Binghamton (Apr. 8-9).
  • Adding two midweek doubleheaders, UAlbany split both at Army (4.5) and against Syracuse (4.12).
  • Most recently, the Great Danes fell in a three-game series against UMBC (Apr. 15-16). The Retrievers took the rubber match (4.16) after splitting the doubleheader (4.15).
 
AT THE PLATE
  • Starting all 29 games, senior Morgan Petty owns a team-high 36 hits, including four home runs, three triples, and five doubles for 20 RBI, to lead the team with a .396 batting average.
  • Senior Maddi Petrella follows with a .341 batting average.
  • Leading the team with 21 RBI, junior Jordan Nastos ties Petty with five doubles while following with three home runs and 31 hits.
  • In addition to Nastos and Petty, sophomore Sierra Fretz and senior Maddi Petrella have totaled two homers each.
  • Three Great Danes have totaled at least one double, one triple, and one home run - Petty (five 2B, three 3B, and four HR), Fretz (four 2B, one 3B, and two HR), and Petrella (two 2B, one 3B, and two HR). 
  • Senior Caitlyn Mitros, senior Wendi Hammond, and freshman Deanna Grahek have added one triple each while Grahek (4), graduate student Chloe Lewis (3), and senior Schuyler Ossman (2) own multiple doubles with their respective totals.
 
IN THE FIELD
  • Chloe Lewis leads the defense with 142 putouts.
  • Deanna Grahek leads with 56 assists with Jordan Nastos (44) and Sara Anderson (44) close behind.
  • Nine Great Danes have contributed to at least one double-play. Grahek leads with 12 and Lewis follows with nine. Jordan Nastos has six, Sierra Fretz has four, and Anderson has three while Maddi Petrella and redshirt-sophomore Kate Powers have tallied two each. Wendi Hammond and sophomore Christie Collins round it out with one each.
  • All five Great Dane pitchers have seen the circle.
  • Hammond has seen the most time with 106.0 innings pitched and 50 strikeouts. She has pitched 11 complete games, including three shutouts, with 17 starts for a 2.97 ERA and an 8-8 record in the circle.
  • Powers saw her first collegiate no-hitter in a six-inning victory over Maine. In total, she has pitched 53.2 innings with 28 strikeouts in four complete games for a 5-3 record in the circle.
  • Sophomore Amelia Freitas has totaled two starts while pitching 19.2 innings for a 1-2 record in the circle.
  • Lewis and senior Adian Sheeren have a combined 12.2 IP and six strikeouts.
 
2023 AMERICA EAST WEEKLY AWARDS  
ABOUT HARTFORD
  • The Hawks are 15-13 on the season while unaffiliated with a conference.
  • In the first two weeks of play, Hartford saw doubleheaders against Delaware State (2.24), Manhattan College (3.3), and a single game against CCSU (3.5) to gain a 3-2 record.
  • The Hawks went 1-4 at the Spring Games (Mar. 10-12).
  • After falling in a doubleheader at CCSU (3.16), Hartford hosted 10-straight home games and earned a 10-11 record with six wins and five losses.
  • Continuing on the road, the Hawks notched three wins and a loss with a doubleheader sweep over Simmons (4.15) and a doubleheader split at Holy Cross (4.6).
  • Hartford added three wins with a single-game victory over Yale (4.12) and a senior-day doubleheader sweep over Bay Path (4.16).
  • Mara Sczecienski leads the team with a .362 batting average, 34 hits, seven doubles, and 14 RBI while adding four home runs.
  • Olivia Wolk follows closely with 13 RBI from 25 hits including six doubles, two home runs, and a team-high three triples.
  • Kelsey Galevich has hit a team-high five homers.
  • Lauren Card owns a team-low 2.39 ERA in 67.1 innings pitched with four complete games, including one shutout, and 48 strikeouts for a 7-2 record in the circle.
  • Caylee English has seen the circle for 83.1 innings while totaling a team-high 85 strikeouts in five complete games, including one shutout, with two saves for a 6-8 record in the circle.
  • In the field, Anita Farkash leads with 102 putouts and Sczecienski owns a team-high 37 assists. Samantha Nagel follows closely with 36 assists.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE HAWKS
  • The Great Danes lead the series, 48-12.
  • During Hartford's last season as a member of the America East, UAlbany won the three-game series, 2-1.
  • On April 15, 2022, the Great Danes took the game-one victory, 5-3.
  • On April 16, Hartford opened the doubleheader with a 2-0 win but UAlbany followed with a 12-4 victory to close the series.
  • Hitting a double and a home run in game three, Morgan Petty led with four RBI.
 
ABOUT BRYANT
  • The Bulldogs are 13-23 on the season with a 3-8 conference record.
  • Bryant started the season in Georgia at the Bash in the Boro (Feb. 17-19).
  • The team continued in Maryland for a doubleheader at the DeMarini Tiger Clash (3.4) and a doubleheader in Baltimore (3.5).
  • After the Clemson Classic (Mar. 10-11), the Bulldogs held a 4-9 record.
  • Heading on the road, Bryant saw two non-conference wins at Howard (3.13) and three non-conference losses at Manhattan (x2) (3.19) and Hartford (3.22).
  • Starting the conference season, the Bulldogs fell in a doubleheader at UMBC (3.26) before splitting a doubleheader at Brown (3.28) and UMass Lowell (3.31). Bryant closed the series against UMass Lowell with a single-game loss on April 2.
  • In the first half of April, the Bulldogs added a doubleheader sweep over Stonehill (4.18) with two losses to Siena (4.12) and a single-game loss to Rhode Island (4.4).
  • Seeing two three-game conference series in April, Bryant won the series, 2-1, over Maine (Apr. 8-9) and fell, 0-3, in their most recent series at Binghamton (Apr. 15-16).
  • Gracie Bishop leads the lead with a .381 batting average.
  • Megan Marcel leads with 21 RBI from 25 hits, including three home runs and a team-high nine doubles.
  • Jenna Gardner owns a team-high five homers.
  • Kylie Kenney has seen the most time in the circle with 91.2 innings pitched with a team-high 97 strikeouts in eight complete games with 15 starts for a 9-8 record.
  • Brooke Tracey follows with 42.1 innings pitched while leading with a team-low 2.31 ERA while pitching for one complete game and 30 strikeouts.
  • In the field, two players lead with over 100 putouts - Marcel (155) and McKenzie McAloon (109). Aleix Hudson owns a team-high 47 assists.
  • As a team, the Bulldogs have notched six double plays.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE BULLDOGS
  • The Great Danes lead the all-time series, 7-5.
  • UAlbany last saw the new America East member in 2016 with a 15-2 victory in five innings.
  • The first matchup between the two teams was in 2009. It was a 2-0 shutout victory for the Great Danes.
 
PICKED THIRD
  • The Great Danes were picked to finish third in the 2023 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
  • UAlbany tallied 17 points and no first-place votes.
  • UMBC topped the poll with 35 points and five first-place votes while UMass Lowell followed with 20 points and one first-place vote. 
  • Binghamton, with 16 points, grabbed the final first-place vote. Bryant and Maine tied for fifth with seven points.
 
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • UMBC holds a strong lead with a 9-2 record.
  • Binghamton follows as the only remaining team with a winning conference record - 7-4.
  • UAlbany sits even at .500 with five wins and five losses.
  • UMass Lowell is close behind with a 5-6 record.
  • Maine and Bryant are tied with three wins but the Black Bears hold the slight edge with seven losses to the Bulldogs' eight.
