SHORT STORY: The Great Danes opened the day with a shutout victory before the Orange earned an extra-inning win, Wednesday.
GAME ONE
SCORE: UAlbany 5, Syracuse 0
KEY STATS
- Graduate student Chloe Lewis led the Great Danes with two RBI from two hits.
- Junior Jordan Nastos and senior Wendi Hammond each added one RBI.
- Hammond and Lewis notched UAlbany's multi-base hits with one double each.
- In each of her three tries in the batter's box, freshman Deanna Grahek earned a base on balls before making her way around the bases for three runs total.
- Tallying just 84 pitches, Hammond earned the shutout victory in the circle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Syracuse tallied the first hit in the top of the first before UAlbany hit the next single in the bottom of the second.
- After Deanna Grahek walked, Chloe Lewis sent the ball through the right side to get on base.
- Grahek advanced home before Lewis was caught stealing, to give the Great Danes a 1-0 lead.
- The third and fourth innings remained scoreless as UAlbany notched a double play from Grahek and Jordan Nastos.
- Leaving two Syracuse runners on base, the Great Danes added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- With Grahek on base, Wendi Hammond hit a double to left center for an RBI. Nastos added a second RBI after sophomore Christie Collins, pinch-running for Hammond, scored.
- With runners on base in the bottom of the sixth, Lewis knocked the ball deep into left field for what proved to be the final two runs of the contest.
- The Great Danes tallied three-straight outs in the top of the seventh to close with a 5-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Orange earned a leadoff single but the Great Danes left no runners on base and headed to the dugout with a double play from Kate Powers, Deanna Grahek, and Chloe Lewis.
- Senior Caitlyn Mitros got on base with a bunt, UAlbany's first hit, in the bottom of the first.
- The Great Dane defense earned three outs with three batters in the second inning.
- Scoreless through three innings, Syracuse broke the seal with a run in the top of the fourth.
- After leaving Morgan Petty on third in the bottom of the fourth, UAlbany's offense came through with four runs in the fifth inning.
- Grahek got on base with a double down the left-field line before scoring on a Lewis single.
- Pinch-running for Lewis, Christie Collins scored the second run right before freshman Kasey Conn crossed home, pinch-running for senior Schuyler Ossman after she hit a well-placed bunt to get on base.
- Maddi Petrella drove in the final run of the inning with a groundout to second base.
- The Orange answered by tying the score at four in the top of the sixth.
- As each team was unable to break the tie, the game headed into an eighth inning.
- Opening the eighth with a single, Syracuse's leadoff batter drove in the tie-breaking run.
- Leaving two on base, the Great Danes were unable to tie the game and take the lead and the Orange took the extra-inning win, 5-4.
