Volleyball Falls to Bryant in a Dog Fight

SHORT STORY: In four hard-fought sets, the Great Danes fell to Bryant, Sunday evening. 
 
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "It was a tough outing tonight. The team battled and came up just short. All of our sets with Bryant have been close and this was no different."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bulldogs opened the match tallying the first two points, but the Great Danes scored three unanswered to take an early lead, 3-2. 
  • Bryant began to pull away with a 10-5 lead, but UAlbany cut the scoring gap to two, 14-12, forcing a Bulldog timeout. 
  • Following the break, Bryant maintained their lead but entering the late stages of the first set, the Great Danes pulled back and took a three-point lead at 21-18. 
  • Seeing four ties towards the end of the set, the Bulldogs took the first set with a two-point advantage, 26-24. 
  • UAlbany took an early 8-4 lead to start the second set. Bryant worked to tie the match, 9-9. 
  • Remaining close into the late stages of the set, the Bulldogs held on for multiple ties, but the Great Danes edged them out to win the set, 25-23. 
  • Trading points early in the third set with six ties, UAlbany pulled ahead with a 12-10 lead. 
  • The Bulldogs took the advantage and continued to build upon it before gaining a five-point lead at 21-17. 
  • Cutting the scoring gap to one point, UAlbany pushed for a late comeback, but the Bulldogs held them off to win the set, 25-21. 
  • The Great Danes opened the fourth set with four unanswered points before forcing a timeout with a 6-1 lead. 
  • Bryant rallied a comeback, cutting the lead to just three points with 14-11 on the scoreboard. 
  • Clawing at the Great Danes' lead, the Bulldogs tied the set at 18. After eight ties in extra points, Bryant took the fourth set with a score of 33-31. 
 
NEXT: The Great Danes will play a single game next week on Sunday, October 30 at NJIT.
