Short Story: UAlbany controlled the pace of play, outshooting Maine 14-6 and holding a 9-2 penalty corners advantage, but fall to the Black Bears 2-1. 

Coach Phil Sykes: "We battled tough today and our girls competed well. We were unlucky to not get rewarded with a few more goals. We are going in a good direction but sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way."

How it Happened
  • The game started with pace, as both teams recorded their first shot within five minutes of the start, both went wide, followed by another wide shot by Katie MacCallum at 5:50.
  • Sheridan Messier made the game's first save when Maine's Brook Sulinki took the first shot on goal at 11:12. The shot was either team's final chance of the quarter.
  • In the second quarter, Robyn Murray applied the pressure off a penalty corner with a shot that was blocked. At 21:53, Cosima Rocktaeschel produced the Great Danes' first shot on goal that was saved by Maine goalkeeper Mia Borley.
  • UAlbany sustained pressure with two more ensuing penalty corners but could not convert on either change. 
  • After a UAlbany foul, Maine earned a penalty stroke and Poppy Lambert converted on the opportunity to give the Black Bears a 1-0 lead at 25:20. 
  • Hanna Zarrilli responded with two shots, one on goal, two minutes after Maine's goal but could not convert. Unable to score an equalizer, UAlbany trailed 1-0 at halftime.
  • The game opened up in the third quarter when Carli Pelletier took a shot that was blocked. On Maine's ensuing offensive pressure, they produced two shots on goal and earned two penalty corners before scoring a second goal.
  • Off the second penalty corner opportunity, Lambert scored her second goal of the game at 35:59, assisted by Tereza Holubcova and Brooke Sulinski, that gave Maine a 2-0 lead.
  • 25 seconds later, MacCallum responded with her first goal of the season on a reverse stick shot from the top of the circle to cut the lead to 2-1.
  • After the back-and-forth play, the game pace slowed back down, as UAlbany earned the only two penalty corners and only shot for the remainder of the quarter.
  • UAlbany carried the momentum into the fourth quarter when they earned two penalty corners and produced two shots in the first nine minutes, but could not capitalize.
  • Charlotte Triggs took a shot off a penalty corner at 56:21 that was saved. With an empty net, Murray took the game's final shot on goal that was turned aside.
  • Despite the pressure in the fourth quarter, UAlbany was unable to tie the game and fell 2-1 at Maine.
