Head Coach Leigh Howard: "We are really proud of how this team came together after having our backs against the wall late in the game.  We continued to play with grit and with something to come away with on the road.  While I wish that we would have put away a chance or two earlier than the final second of the game, to be able to capitalize and have that momentum going into overtime was tremendous for us.  We're happy to come away with a win out here on the road and get the three points heading back to Albany."

How it Happened

  • UMBC scored the first goal of the game after drawing a penalty kick in the 40th minute.  Christina Corbi beat UAlbany goalkeeper Sophia Chen on the attempt to net her first goal of the season and put the Retrievers up 1-0, a lead they would take into the break.
  • Despite trailing, UAlbany held a minor advantage in shots in the first half, 7-4.  That advantage grew significantly after halftime, with the Great Danes outshooting the Retrievers 9-1 in the second 45 minutes.
  • With time winding down, UAlbany's shot disparity finally bore fruit, with Jasmine Colbert finding Sahara Zingano to tie the game at one in the 90th minute, six seconds before the clock expired.  It was Zingano's first goal of the season.
  • In overtime, Colbert broke through herself to score the game-winner in the 95th minute and secure the 2-1 victory for UAlbany.  It was Colbert's third goal of the season, and her second-straight game-winner.
  • UAlbany's shot advantage over UMBC finished at 18-5, and the Great Dane defense held the Retrievers to just one shot in the second half and overtime.  Additionally, UAlbany drew nine total corner kicks, including six in the second half, comparted to just five for UMBC.
