Baseball Suffers 14-5 Loss at Merrimack

Short Story: UAlbany fell at Merrimack, 14-5, as the Warriors slashed seven home runs. 

Coach Jon Mueller: "We were pitching from behind during different parts of the game. We had chances for big innings but were not able to capitalize. We will get back to work tomorrow and continue to make adjustments."

How it Happened
  • For the third-straight game, the Great Danes scored first. Johnny Marti hit an RBI single and UAlbany took a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half, Merrimack hit a game-tying home run. 
  • In the second inning, Merrimack tacked on five runs and took a 6-1 lead. Alex Haba hit a three-run home run and Bryant Skurbe and Nick Shumski each hit a solo shot. Both teams scored one run in the third and one run in the fourth inning, as Merrimack held an 8-3 lead. Shumski hit his second home run of the game in the fourth.
  • The Great Danes scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning, when they walked home a run and scored on a wild pitch, but left the bases loaded and trailed 8-5. 
  • Merrimack immediately responded in the bottom half with a solo home run, and four more runs in the sixth inning. The Warriors' Skurbe launched his second home run of the game in the four-run sixth, this time a grand-slam, that capped off Merrimack's 14-run output. 
  • Both teams were held scoreless in the final two-and-a-half innings of the game, as the Great Danes lost 14-5 and dropped their fourth-straight contest.
