WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Following a day off from competition at the Rebel Spring Games, the University at Albany softball team picked up play again Monday for two sets against Army on Monday.  The Danes (7-5) lost to Army in the first game 2-0, but came back and defeated the Black Knights 6-2 in their second game.

Brittany MacFawn (3-2) started the first game on the mound for UAlbany.  She pitched six innings giving up two runs (one earned), while recording nine strikeouts and zero walks.  UAlbany's best scoring chance came in the top of the fourth inning, when the Danes loaded the bases with zero outs.  Army's defense and pitching came through, however, recording the first out at home plate in a fielder's choice, then a strikeout, and finally an inning ending ground out.

Caitlin Cooper (1-0) pitched the second game for UAlbany.  She threw a complete game, allowing three runs (one earned) on two strikeouts and one walk.  Charlise Castro hit her second homerun of the season, a solo shot to center to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning, giving UAlbany a 6-1 lead.  Army scored one in the top of the seventh to bring the final score to 6-2.  Kate Biasi recorded 2 RBIs in the game.

Tuesday is the last day of competition for UAlbany at the Rebel Spring Games.  They are scheduled to play UW-Green Bay at 10:00 a.m. and Buffalo at 12:00 p.m.
