Albany, N.Y.- UAlbany senior Stephanie Talerico went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run score in the victory over Binghamton, 7-1, on Saturday, April 21 at Albany Field. Seniors Kayla Cilley, Mel Herndon and Diane MacDowell each record a base hit in the Great Dane victory. UAlbany improves to 11-3 in the America East Conference while Binghamton falls to 6-9 in conference play.
UAlbany (31-10, 12-3 AE) opened up senior day with an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Third baseman Lauren Alcorn drove in both runs with a double to deep center.
The Great Danes extended their lead to four runs ,4-0, in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run shot to left by Vicky McFarland. Then in the bottom of the sixth, Cilley led off the inning with a single to center, Charlise Castro reached on a fielder's choice, Katie Wambold drove in Castro with a double to center to go up 5-0.
Christina Patrick would come in to pinch run for Kylie Apostolina after getting hit by a pitch. Talerico would follow by driving in both Wambold and Patrick with a single to center.
Brittany MacFawn (16-4) went into the seventh inning for the second consecutive start bidding for her first career perfect game. But Binghamton's (15-24, 6-9 AE) left fielder Jessica Phillips would break it up with a homerun to center field to cut the deficit to six, 7-1.
But MacFawn would finish out the game with a 1-2-3 inning to win her 16th start this season.
UAlbany will look to carry its six-game winning streak on Thursday, April 26 in a non-conference double header against Bryant at Albany for the finale of the 12-game homestand
