We need to continue to work on finishing some of our offensive sets with goals. I thought our defense was outstanding against a veteran offense. We improved in some crucial areas today especially in turnover department. We will keep working hard and look for our first win this weekend at Drexel."
How it Happened:
- Silas Richmond, coming off a four-goal performance against Colgate, scored the first goal of the game less than a minute in. Penn responded by scoring two quick goals, one from Luke DiNola and another from Ben Smith just under the 10-minute mark to make it 2-1.
- Penn made it 3-1 with 6:24 remaining in the first quarter after Anthony McMullan found the back of the net.
- Three minutes later, Penn pushed the score to 4-1 on a goal from Gabe Furey. On the ensuing draw, Penn's Ethan Costanzo won the faceoff and took it the distance himself, scoring on a bouncer to make it 5-1 and forcing UAlbany to call timeout.
- UAlbany out-shot Penn 10-9 in the first quarter, but trailed 5-1 at the end of the first frame.
- Freshman Ryan Doherty scored his first of the afternoon two minutes into the second quarter, going top shelf on a two-man advantage. Penn pushed the lead back to four goals two minutes later when Cam Rubin found the back of the net.
- Two straight goals from the Great Danes brought the score to 6-4 with just under eight minutes on the clock. Richmond flashed some moves in front of the goal to fake the keeper and bury the first goal before Chris Crapanzano fired a top-shelf laser past to bring UAlbany within two.
- After a diving play from Jake Piseno, the ball bounced into the hands of Richmond, who found Graydon Hogg in front of the net to make it 6-5 with 1:45 remaining in the first half.
- UAlbany would enter halftime down just 6-5 after trailing by four at the end of the first quarter. In the first half, the Great Danes led in shots (25-15), shots on goal (15-11), faceoffs (15-11), and ground balls (15-11).
- The two foes scored three goals in just over three minutes to start the second half. Penn's Ben Smith scored the first before UAlbany's Alex Pfeiffer netter an unassisted strike to bring the Great Danes back within one. Not even 20 seconds later, the lead was pushed back to two goals on Smith's third of the afternoon.
- Penn extended the lead to three goals once again five minutes in when Tynan Walsh scored on a solid pass from Casey Mulligan. The lead moved to four goals, 10-6, with 2:46 remaining in the third on another goal from Tynan Walsh.
- Penn's Smith scored the first goal of the fourth quarter five minutes in to push the lead to 11-6.
