Short Story: The University at Albany football team, decimated by injuries, was unable to retain the Golden Apple trophy on the road against No. 17 ranked Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon.
 
Key Stat Lines 

• Trey Lindsey started the game for the Great Danes at quarterback, going 3-4 on passing attempts before being forced out of the game with an injury.
• Van Weber saw his first collegiate minutes, going 20-32 through the air for 201 yards and a TD.
• Jojo Uga (56 yards, 17 attempts) and Faysal Aden (52 yards, six attempts) led the ground game.
• Caden Burti (68 yards, TD), Jackson Parker (54 yards), and Jacari Carter (51 yards) paced the receiving corps.
• Ron Holmes led the defense with 14 tackles, one TFL, and a QB hurry.

Head Coach Greg Gattuso: "I feel bad that we wasted such a great defensive effort today. We played hard, the turnovers in the second half were just too much… It's just not good enough to win a gamer in the CAA."
 
How it Happened: 

• The Seawolves were the first to get on the board after they marched 80 yards on their opening offensive drive. Roland Dempster capped the drive with a two-yard rush, but the highlight of the series came on a 36-yard completion to Jayce Freeman on 3^rd-and-10 from the Stony Brook 46 yard line.

• Van Weber entered the game on UAlbany's second offensive drive, taking his first ever collegiate snaps.
• Later that same drive, a fumble on the Stony Brook two-yard line spoiled a potential score for the Great Danes. Weber was unable to take in the snap.
• UAlbany found the end zone shortly into the second quarter. Weber found wideout Caden Burti on a 23-yard strike for his first collegiate touchdown. The score finished off a six-play, 51-yard drive. The ensuing extra point was missed by John Opalko, keeping the score at 7-6.
• The Great Danes had an opportunity to take the lead late in the second, but a 29-yard field goal from James Bozek missed to the right after a bad snap.
• The Great Danes had their second fumble of the game early in the third, giving Stony Brook the ball at midfield after Weber lost the ball.
• UAlbany once again fumbled the ball on their next possession, this time after a big catch from wideout Jackson Parker.
• Stony Brook took advantage of the latest fumble, hitting a 41-yard field goal to push the lead to 10-6 with 8:49 remaining in the third.
• The Great Danes were able to fall on a fumble from Stony Brook late in the third, setting up the offense inside the Seawolves' territory. UAlbany was later unable to convert on fourth down, walking away without any points.
• Stony Brook made it 17-6 early in the fourth on a 20-yard completion to Jayce Freeman for the score.
• The Seawolves picked up an INT with 6:35 remaining in the game.
• The final score of the game came with under three minutes remaining when Roland Dempster ran it in from four yards out to make it 24-6.
