Leading the Pack

• Wednesday's start will be the first for redshirt freshman Matthew Mariano. Mariano missed all of the 2022 season due to injury. The Shenendehowa grad has made one appearance so far this year, a 0.2 inning performance against Hofstra where he allowed one unearned run on one hit with two walks and a strikeout.
• Dan Tauken enjoyed a great weekend for the Great Danes, hitting two home runs and posting five RBIs in two games played. He totaled four hits in seven at-bats, drawing two walks in the process.
• Chris Fisher tops the team with a .389 batting average. He has played in and started five games behind the dish, totaling seven hits on 18 at-bats.
• Will Feil leads the team in RBIs with eight through six games. The Captain is currently batting .292 and is a perfect 3-3 on stolen base attempts.
• Cregg Scherrer, Connor Eisenmann, and Dylan Banner have been UAlbany's three main starters throughout the first two series. Scherrer sits with a 5.40 ERA, Eisenmann a 6.23 ERA, and Banner a 7.56 ERA.
• As a team, the Great Danes are batting .258 with a .751 OPS and a .380 slugging percentage. The team's on base percentage sits at .371.
• The pitching staff has amassed an 8.76 ERA over 50.1 innings pitched, with opponenets batting .347.

 
Last Time Out
UAlbany went 0-2-1 over the weekend in a three-game series against Fairleigh Dickinson. The Great Danes fell 7-8 and 3-8 before the final game of the series was called after 10 innings (darkness) with the score tied at 12.
 
Scouting CCSU
The Blue Devils come into Wednesday's matchup with a 2-2 overall record, beating Butler twice and falling to LSU twice.

• Ramon Jimenez leads the team in batting average at .462. He has registered six hits in 13 at-bats with three home runs. He's recorded five RBIs and three runs, drawing one walk and striking out three times.
• Joe Rios is another Blue Devil to watch closely. He has two home runs already this season with a total of four hits in 13 at-bats. He's walked twice and struck out twice.
• As a team, the Blue Devils are hitting .235 with a .336 OBP and a 4.12 slugging percentage.
• The CCSU pitching staff has allowed 40 hits over 30.0 innings, giving up 45 runs, striking out 28 batters, walking 20, and allowing six home runs. The team ERA sits at 12.30.

 
2022 America East Preseason Poll
The UAlbany baseball team was picked to finish seventh in the 2023 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning nine points. The Binghamton Bearcats, the league's defending champions, were picked to finish in first place with 31 points, collecting four first place votes. UMass Lowell followed closely behind with 28 points and two first place votes. Bryant (25) placed third, Maine (21) fourth, and NJIT (19) fifth. UMBC (14) and UAlbany rounded out the poll.
 
2023 Captain
Will Feil will serve as the Captain of the Great Danes during the 2023 season. Feil, a redshirt senior, enters his fifth year with the program – having joined before the 2019 campaign. He has been a mainstay for the Great Danes, playing in 35+ games the last two years.
