Head Coach Leigh Howard: "It was great to have such a competitive matchup for the start of conference play.  Once again, we felt as though we had more opportunities than our opponent, but we need to capitalize on those moments.  We struggled a bit to get into the course of the game, but certainly had many moments to equalize or even come out on top, especially coming out in the second half and outshooting them 20-2.  We have a busy week ahead so it's time to get back to work again tomorrow with our heads high.

How it Happened
  • Freshman Cassandra Coster, making her first career start in goal for the Great Danes, was tested early, during away a head-on shot from Stony Brook in the fourth minute with a kick save.
  • Stony Brook scored first in the 16th minute when Chelsie DePonte, in the UAlbany box, pushed the ball to her right and ripped a shot to the far post and by a diving Coster.
  • Jasmine Colbert broke through the Stony Brook defense and saw her attempt deflected by Stony Brook goalkeeper Emerson Richmond Burke for a Great Danes corner kick.
  • Stony Brook scored again in the 44th on a free kick from 20 yards out.  Kerry Pearson served the ball into the box to the left side and it bounced into the far corner netting to put the Seawolves up 2-0 just before halftime.
  • In the 60th minute, Jada Colbert ripped a shot through the Stony Brook defense on a free kick from just outside the top left corner of the Stony Brook box.  Richmond Burke dove to her left to make the save, which bounced out to Marisa Tava on the right side.  Tava's shot was blocked by the Seawolves defense and away from the goal.
  • UAlbany broke through in the 77th minute when Sahara Zingano found Jasmine Colbert on a through ball for a breakaway.  Jasmine's shot was deflected off Richmond Burke directly towards twin sister Jada, who fired a shot into the near corner netting to cut Stony Brook's lead in half.
  • In the 88th, Charlotte Takacsy lauNched a shot from deep, on target, that Richmond Burke had to punch away over the crossbar to prevent the equalizer.  It was UAlbany's final best chance to tie the game, and the Seawolves held on to win 2-1.
  • UAlbany did not lack for chances in the second half, outshooting Stony Brook 20-2 after halftime, while the defense locked down and did not allow the Seawolves to earn a corner kick.
