Short Story: Led by stellar pitching and timely hitting, the University at Albany softball team ended the Spring Games in Soldier's Creek with two wins on Sunday. The Great Danes defeated Detroit Mercy in game one, then shut out Loyola Chicago in game two.

Starting off the final day of the Spring Games in Soldier's Creek, the University at Albany softball team got an early morning win, defeating Detroit Mercy by a score of 3-1.
Knotted up at one heading into the top of the seventh, the Great Danes scored a pair of runs to pull ahead 3-1 and held on for the win.
The Great Danes got on the board first in the top of the third. After Phillips singled and Falotico doubled, Petty brought home Phillips on a sac fly making it 1-0.
Detroit Mercy tallied its lone run in the bottom of the sixth on a home run to tie the game up at one.
UAlbany plated a pair in the top of the seventh to pull ahead 3-1. After Mitros walked and advanced to second on a flyout, Petty ended up reaching on a fielding error which then proceeded to score Mitros. Petrella then brought home Petty on a RBI single making it a 3-1 game.
Detroit Mercy had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, but Jimenez got the final batter to fly out to end the threat and seal the victory.

After notching the first win of the day against Detroit Mercy, the Great Danes followed it up with their first shutout win of the season, defeating Loyola Chicago by a score of 1-0.
Making her fourth collegiate start in the circle, Hammond was stellar in the circle, pitching all six innings, giving up no runs and struck out five.
UAlbany tallied the lone run early in the top of the first. After Phillips singled to lead off the contest, Petrella brought her home on an RBI single.
The one run of the game was the only support that Hammond needed in the circle. Loyola Chicago had its best opportunity to knot the game up in the bottom of the second after the first batter singled, but the freshman proceeded to get the next three outs to end the threat.
