Baseball Falls to Binghamton in Series Opener, 7-4

ALBANY, N.Y.— Coming within three runs late in the game, the University at Albany baseball team (8-14, 1-3) were unable to mount a comeback and lost the first game of their series against Binghamton (8-15, 4-0), 7-4.

Trailing 7-1 in the top of the sixth, Kyle Sacks started off the inning with a home run over the left field fence. Then with two outs, Garret Longhurst doubled to right field and advanced to third on a single to left field by Joey Tracy. Longhurst was sent home after Connor Powers also hit a single to left field.

Will Miller started the next inning with a double to right center and scored two batters later off a Sacks single up the middle, decreasing Binghamton's lead to 7-4.

The Danes tied the game in the top of the third when Karson Canaday hit a one out double to left center and scored on the next play when Miller hit a single into right field.

Binghamton broke the game open in the bottom of the third. After two walks to CJ Krowiak and Reed Gamache, Brendan Skidmore hit one of his two home runs of the game over the left centerfield fence to push the Bearcat's lead to 4-1.

Skidmore's second home run came in the bottom of the fifth, where he and Jason Agresti sent the ball past the left field wall.

Sacks led the Danes offensively with 3-for-5 with two RBI's and one run, and Miller finished with a .500 day and added a RBI and one run scored. Karson Canaday also went 2-for-4 with one run scored on the day.

Skidmore was the top performer for Binghamton going 3-for-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored. Agresti hit for 2-for-4 with two RBI's and one run scored.

Angelo Spedafino (0-1) got the loss for the Danes after pitching just 3.0 innings and allowed five earned runs on seven hits and struck out two batters. Hunter Torres preformed really well in relief, pitching 4.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits.

Jake Cryts (2-3) picked up the win for Binghamton, pitching 5.2 innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits. Rob Hardy (1) was given the save, going 3.1 innings and allowed one earned run on four hits.

The Danes return to Varsity Field tomorrow for a doubleheader with game one starting at noon. Stephen Woods and Kenny McLean will get the start for UAlbany while Jacob Wloczewski and Mike Bunal will take the mound for the Bearcats.
